[W:#23,579]Ukraine War Thread

I see a russian complaining a lot about why great russia isn't crushing Ukraine. What I don't see is the glimmer of recognition in his eyes after he has literally explained to himself exactly why russia is not great.
And anger at Russian leadership

And anger at Russian leadership

Never over the right things though.

It is rarely “We are being humiliated! How could our leadership have lied to us and thrown our sons into the slaughter over this folly?” so much as it is “We are being humiliated! Why hasn’t our leadership not been more harsh and cruel to these recalcitrant Ukrainians and engaged in a more complete genocide?”

Conditioning with centuries where the laws were made for the powerful to abuse.
That said they are getting one hell of a wake call, & history is calling

Winter will be harsh for Russian troops. Logistics sucks, poor kit, poor morale. poorly trained
Ukraine wants to increase artillery fire by 3-5 K per day. The advantage of highly accurate artillery will pound critical Russian targets.
Ukraine will in all probability mount a winter offensive when the ground freezes.

And that is a good thing
Agreed.....I think it is a clue as to the situation in Russia. Are they normally this slow to respond to fires at critical buildings or are they under manned or under equipped to provide the services the community depends on?

I spent some time in Bosnia & Croatia. The hate I saw started centuries ago. Hopefully Russians will revolt when they see more of the truth

No equipment means things are worse than we see?

I thought on this and you brought up what MSM has overlooked due to Ukrainian successes and other world news.
We have not seen much on how sanctions are impacting the Russian economy.
If I find a recent one I will try to remember & tag you

I looked at overhead for trench lines, found location on Google Earth. It appears that if the Ukes breakthrough here, it has potential to turn Russian flank.

Depending on what they have behind those trenches, they are extremely vulnerable. The video posted yesterday and logistics logic indicate that Ukrainian forces coming from the West are light forces, without vehicular support (although they might pick some up along the way), but they would be more maneuverable, and can spot for artillery. Those RU slobs are going to be annihilated. Their position is too exposed and unsupported. Thankfully, they are outside inhabited areas of the peninsula.

Fire trucks, pumper units, ladder units are all kind of high maintenance vehicles....used hard and things tend to break. If you don't have access to replacement parts you have to rely on machine shops to repair/fabricate needed items. Maybe I'm reading too much into this....but it looks like critical infrastructure in Russia is lacking....

It's unclear to me if and how Ukraine managed to land anything bigger than a moped in those inflatable boats. Assuming that they found a way to land some vehicles, or use helicopters for forward movement even then I would think their ability to move forward is limited by the range of the artillery on the opposite shore.

I do not doubt that this winter will be utterly miserable for the Ukrainians, but utterly Hellish for the Russians. Like Russo-Finnish War levels of Hellish. Except there is no veritably bottomless industrial plant and reserves of manpower for the Russians to throw at the Ukrainians as Stalin had to throw at the Finns.

I don't think it will be that bad for the Ukrainians....
They will be able to build strong "warming shelters" for the troops as the Russians lack the ability to target well..
They may be able to adopt a rotation plan that allows for relief of front line troops.
They will have a great population of people donating goods for them and sewing, knitting personal items to help combat the cold.
I don't think the Russian will have this as much and if they did the pilfering and looting between the home front and the front lines will exact a toll.

From what I recall their auto industry is highly dependant upon western parts. Those have been sanctioned. Could be seeing the impacts

Great place for a fire
How many in Russia are of Ukrainian descent?

I understand that there are 11,000,000 families of mixed Russian and Ukrainian backgrounds living in Russia, or with a Ukrainian connection (eg children living in Ukraine).
