[W:151]Iowa Caucuses

I find the Iowa caucus process so weird.

Early numbers are looking really good for Sanders. If he can soundly take Iowa and New Hampshire I don't see a scenario where Sanders doesn't win the nomination.

Where are you getting your returns info from?

Klobuchar will come in 5th, but it’s a strong 5th.

Because people are congregating without beer?

At one Des Moines precinct tonight, an attendee brought in a concealed bottle of wine, dropped it, and it shattered everywhere

Listening in on NPR while at work today they interviewed many people who said they would be drinking tonight during the caucus.

It's Monday evening and no one has established this thread yet? Shame on all of you. Up your poly nerdism.

Live returns here:

Iowa: Low population which is 90% White; 3% African American; tRump carried it by 10 points in 2016. Two GOP senators and a Rep named Steve King, probably the most racist House rep in Congress outside of Idaho.

A victory in that state does not mean much in the big tent Democratic Party. It's like a Republican winning Rhode Island.

Way too early, the process allows for a plethora of movement and "negotiation." In this case it may drag out for a bit before we know much but so far it looks like the State is huddling around the party relics.

Imagine having a state party convention, but instead of traditional power brokers, you give sole power to a random collection of yahoos who haggle with one another.

I hear there was a small section of Biden supporters, but they had to move them to make room for Bernie’s.

Bernie is winning among minorities. His weak spot is the white population. So winning here... that says something.

I wouldn't mind sitting in on one of these in person sometime.

I would get irritated at the prospect of having some random person trying to convince me to support someone else.

IMHO, it depends on how long Warren hangs in there. If (when?) Warren gives up then I suspect that many (most?) of the voters supporting her would switch to Sanders.

I'd come up to you often. Like a JW.

I wish the hell I could screenshot the view on my TV right now. There's a reporter in a gym in one of the precincts. There's an overhead camera and the individual groups are bunched together with a big balloon illustration above the group with the name of their candidate on it. There's a large group clustered together representing the Bernie Sanders voters. There's another big group in a cluster for Warren. Buttigieg looks like he has a decent number of people in his group supporting his nomination. The groups massed together dwindle down from those allll the wayyyy to Tulsi Gabbard. There's one solitary person standing up alone in her group. And I'll be damned if it doesn't look like Tulsi herself.
