[W:1296] PUTIN FEARS COUP Russian tanks in Moscow to ‘secure Kremlin’ as cowering Putin fears Wagner group are launching coup to overthrow him

Good question, and my answer is absolutely nothing could stop China from taking whatever they wanted from eastern Russia. Except Russian nukes.
Beijing knows Russia would use nukes against the Chinese. It's not only about Putin, ie, it's a Russian thing.

Even in the best of times for Putin he does not have sufficient force to stop a PLA operation to seize Siberia. Because even in the best of times the bulk of all Russian armed forces are west of the Urals and at Europe. Now with the continuing war in Ukraine the PLA could walk into Siberia and share tea with fortune cookies at every village along the way.

Siberia is rich in minerals, oil, gas. Putin already has his Power of Siberia pipeline with more Siberia pipelines to China and Europe in operation, under construction or in the planning.

Putin extracts energy resources from Siberia to sell 'em to China and make money. China however needs the minerals now, in the present. Beijing is getting nowhere to extract minerals from under the East Sea and the South China Sea.

Putin will nuke Chinese forces trying to seize Siberia, yes. Beijing knows this as a certainty. Now is the best time for Putin. It's what he needs most. It's Beijing that's in the tough spot on this one.

This situation is reminding me of what one of my history teachers told us back about 55 years ago.
he said that China was going to be the stronger of the two countries just by the number of people they have and how they could someday decide Russia wasn't that strong and could just start sending waves and waves of people into Russia and the only way Russia could stop them was by using Nuclear weapons and then China would use theirs and we would be in the middle of a world war because we would probably go in on Russia's side because we would not want a China that was over double the size it is now,
a China that size would then try to control the world and the world economy ,
I hope this never happens but it is a scary memory
Have a nice day
Every China dynasty has failed.

Each and every one has gone bust.

The CCP dynasty is a young and nervous dynasty of emperors in business suits and Florsheims. Since Xi came to power in 2013 GDP growth has gone from 9% to the present 3%. Soon it will enter zero territory and continue. As the Western banks say it, China has yet to have its long overdue "major economic correction." That is, this is no surprise globally.

Oh look, it's Mr. Hindsight. Can't get anything right, is left trolling after the fact.
It didn’t take hindsight to know the claims of mass battles with hundreds of people killed and a second Russian civil war were totally bunk.

We all know it was Trump that ended this hostile episode. He just hasn't' declared it yet.

I have no idea what you mean by "russian gas".. Going after Assad (barrel bombs) would lead to a failed terrorist state
like Libya became after we took out Qadaffi - he's a Hobsons choice of least bad options

The Kurds get their assess kicked because of Turkey, not the USA. The USA has never promised the Kurds a state

Assad is Moscow’s man in the Middle East. You know EXACTLY what I meant by Russian gas.

ya know??
when someone asks a question, or challenges your assertion simply doubling down on such is not a rebuttal/clarification

So, the brutal suppression of a rebellion by a bloodthirsty dictator who happens to be a Russian puppet is the best course of action.

Got it.

Don’t be melodramatic.

Unironically yes. ISIS and commie Kurds were far inferior options to control Syria.
yes.

Literally no one’s life but ISIS was made better by stupid American democrats repeating the Mantra “Assad must go”

Now no one is even pretending. The Arab league has voted to readmit Syria over our dumbass SecState’s objections

I wonder if you ever saw the interview of Assad by Tulsi Gabbard or Dennis Kucinich?
It was similar to Qadaffi warning that he isn't the "terrorist" ( as the American meme went)
but overthrowing them would lead to such a jihadi based state

Wagner Group, didn't we smoke those turkeys in Afghanistan?

They had one functioning armored vehicle after we smacked them around for trying to jump on the Kurds, IIRC.

I tend toward this line of thought myself, but I also don't mind giving thought to "What-Ifs?" especially when it is something of this nature. It's always good to give thought to what might appear to be the impossible.

One added thought, though, is if for any strange reason the PRC did decide to go for this option, they would probably use the nuke option first. I mean, we'd be referring to one heck of a gamble, so they'd be all in.

But, again, very improbable. Just a thought to keep stored way in the back of the mind. A good warrior always keeps the impossible in mind.

Lucky (in a way) on one front, though, is certain preparations are already starting to get into people's minds here in Japan about what to do under extreme circumstances; like a missile strike, or even nuke fallout or worse, and that is because of the regime in the DPRK.

Thanks for your thoughts, Tangmo.

Desperately projecting that everything is as it was, the Kremlin is only emphasizing how much has changed.

These were 36 hours that provided a glimpse of the end of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s rule. Almost every action was improbable, at best a week ago – much was inconceivable, 17 months ago.

I don't know if I buy this, but it would be great if Putin was kicked out. But he'd need to be replaced with a decent leader focused on the rights, liberties, freedom, and democracy of the Russian people.

Can we please not let Conservative derail this thread? Just ignore him. We've seen his dog and pony show a thousand times before. Scratch that, 131,758 times before.
Great,I see Seattle has come in to take his place. I bet they pm 'ed to arrange it. Is this tag team bullshit or what?

Thank you for posting that CNN article's link. I wouldn't have had time for a few days to have done any digging on this one, and that is a very good read. This paragraph (second from the end) is very interesting.

The most acute catalyst to any change will be the impact this bizarre drama has on the Ukraine frontlines. It is impossible to imagine that a series of fluctuations in Russia’s military presence has not weakened defensive positions in the south and east – the very places where Ukraine is pushing forwards. The most optimistic assessment you could make is that Russian military morale must have felt a hiccup while watching its commander-in-chief and most prominent military figure engage in a 24-hour game of chicken. Would you genuinely give your life on the Russian front lines this weekend, given the mess you observe in the higher command?
