Christopher Steele, the former British spy behind the infamous “dossier” on President Donald Trump’s ties to Russia, was interviewed for 16 hours in June by the Justice Department’s internal watchdog, according to two people familiar with the matter.

The interview was contentious at first, the sources added, but investigators ultimately found Steele’s testimony credible and even surprising. The takeaway has irked some U.S. officials interviewed as part of the probe — they argue that it shouldn’t have taken a foreign national to convince the inspector general that the FBI acted properly in 2016.

Genuine question: what was the last news story by a respected news vendor that trump supporters dismissed as "fake news" or due to anonymous sources that actually turned out to be false?

Just to head you off at the pass, Buzzfeed isn't a respected news vendor.

The investigators pored over Mr. Steele’s old memos and his contemporaneous notes from meetings with F.B.I. agents in the fall of 2016, according to a person familiar with the investigation. They asked Mr. Steele to explain in detail how he had validated his sources inside Russia, how he communicated with them, and how he decided which of their claims to include in his reports. They spoke at length about Mr. Steele’s work with the F.B.I. on other Russia-related investigations and his contacts with a senior Justice Department official.

The interview was a key step in the investigation by the inspector general, Michael E. Horowitz, into the facts underlying a bitter partisan feud: Did F.B.I. officials do anything wrong in 2016 when they sought to understand the Trump campaign’s links to Russia — including how they used information from Mr. Steele?

That question has hovered over the Russia inquiry for two years as President Trump and his allies repeatedly assailed the investigators who scrutinized him and his advisers. Your ad hom is unwarranted.

You've dismissed the first two articles due to anonymous sources. It's been roughly two and a half years of trump supporters dismissing news stories due to anonymous stories or as "fake news." Of the news stories by legitimate and respected news outlets, how many times have trump supporters been validated in their dismissals?

Again, Buzzfeed isn't a respected news outlet.

I don't need to, because in the past two and a half years, legitimate news outlets haven't gotten the central claims of any of their stories wrong. They've been right every time.

So, right, I will color you someone who has their mind made up, and won't change it, and when the final report doesn't blow your socks off, you will then move the goalposts.

How do you know Steele gave testimony that is harmful to President Trump?

That appears to be the consensus.

Well, I guess it's technically possible that he gave testimony that's harmful to somebody else, but considering that Trump was literally the subject of his dossier, that seems unlikely.

It's possible that he gave testimony that's harmful to the agents currently under investigation. Afterall, the IG extended the investigation. It probably wasn't because Steele's testimony cleared the FBI and condemned Trump.

Possible, but deeply unlikely. It's also "possible" that the Swedish Bikini Team will knock on my door in ten minutes and ask me if I'd like to take part in an orgy with them, and that my wife will give the thumbs-up to said orgy. This scenario is technically possible, but like your theory that Steele's testimony is harmful to the agents, it is also deeply unlikely.
