The suspect's brother said Mr. Hogkinson was a critic of Mr. Trump, upset over last fall's election, and intent on bringing his protest to Washington.

"I know he wasn't happy with the way things were going, the election results and stuff",
Michael Hogkinson said in a phone interview after he received the news on Wednesday.

On social media accounts, and in frequent letters to the Belleview News Democrat, Mr Hogkinson showed a political intensity. He appeared to have taken Mr Trump's victory in November particularity hard.

The New York Times seems perplexed at how a 'normal' guy like Hogkinson could become radicalized in the last 8 months, since the election. I've found the answer for them; their own 24 hour flood of negativity about Trump.

Within the past 24 hours alone, the New York Times has uploaded 10 articles online, each with a decidedly anti Trump attack theme;

Hogkinson, a man who may have already had personal issues brewing, was driven over the edge into violence by the media's hysterical daily rantings about the President.

The NYT and WaPo are not liable for this. He hates Trump, so does most of the country. The reason he hates Trump is because of Trump, not because the NYT used their superior powers of persuasion to give Trump a bad shake. Trump gives Trump a bad shake. He's horrible.

No, sorry. That's simply not a credible answer.

The reason he hates Trump is because of himself. I don't see any evidence that he has ever met Trump so unless there's some kind of telepathic link Trump has with his detractors then the hate is all on them.

Trump is not a stranger on the street. His life in the spotlight for the past 40 years has afforded him some familiarity with the American people, especially after that bombastic and reckless campaign. I'd wager that most right wingers here, hate Hillary Clinton. To pose as a figure above reproach is erroneous. Everyone here has gotten their hands dirty, with feelings of animosity and vitriol. No one here is an innocent bystander to ridiculing the idiots in office and praising the few we agree with.

If it's because of himself it's because of HIMSELF. Not because of the evil liberal media.

Most right wingers I have talked to hate Hillary Clinton's policies and many don't think much of her as a person but as far as hating her personally, I don't see much of that at all.

There is television and Twitter. I guess Trump could just be pretending to believe what he says, but it seems like he really puts his beliefs out there.

That may be true in your case, but people often have a hard time separating the personality from the policy. And it definitely showed with Trump and HRC. Both of those two underwent some bit of unfair treatment that leads to people hating them.

I bolded the part that I think is the main culprit here. It would be nice if we could all acknowledge that extreme language really feeds the kind of people that end up committing acts of violence, but we would have to agree that everyone is now and has been responsible for this. Blaming it on the liberal media is just a way to make yourself feel good.

When people pluck their opinions from Twitter and Facebook rather than actually thinking them through they can end up with a poor basis for those opinions. That, however, is still on them, not Trump.

the NYT used their superior powers of persuasion to give Trump a bad shake.

You're ok with a for-profit company directing the majority of it's time and energy towards 'persuading' the American public not to like someone?

Speaking of twitter, a bunch of liberals have claimed that being blocked by the president is a violation of their 1st amendment rights. I guess it's not enough to send their hate-mail in the multitude of other channels available to them.

I really don't care about what a bunch of twitter people think. I don't even know how that relates to this thread at all.

But Hogkinson repeatedly posted on Facebook about 'Russia Hacked the Election ', and 'The White House Committed Treason'. Where do you think he got these ideas from that pushed him over the edge?

Yes it is. Facebook wouldn't have deleted his anti-Trump rhetoric already if there wasn't something to my explanation.

No, sorry, but simply saying that it is won't magically make it so. And unless FB deletes all similar such anti-Trump rhetoric, it's irrelevant.

It's not a credible answer no matter how much you wish it were.

Seems some republicans are feeling ok about it now...

Colorado GOP leader busted for fundraising off of baseball shooting

Republican Colorado House Minority Leader Patrick Neville on Wednesday defended using the shooting of U.S. Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) to raise funds.

The blog Colorado Pols reported on Wednesday that Neville sent out a fundraising letter on behalf of Colorado Liberty PAC asking to donors to contribute to combat the “hate-inspired violent rhetoric against conservatives and Republicans.”

Unruly protesters trashing Civic Center Park and clashing with cops in the streets.

Mock beheadings of President Trump by Kathy Griffin.

And now an ASSASSINATION attempt on Republican lawmakers!

The hate-inspired violent rhetoric against conservatives and Republicans was already at an all-time fever pitch before today, but now it just got very real.

The left is out of control. Their violent actions are un-American, and it needs to stop!

Here’s what you can do to help:

First, join me in praying for a speedy recovery for Congressman Scalise and the staff and law enforcement who were wounded in today’s attack.

Second, join me in calling on the media to denounce horrific attacks like this and to call for an end to the violent political rhetoric on the left that they’ve inspired.

Finally, if you can, please show us that you’re not backing down by chipping-in $50 or $25 to Colorado Liberty PAC today so we can retake the State House in 2018.

Your contribution today will help us advance our conservative values through passionate and peaceful civil discourse that makes our country great.

Stay classy!

Really? You weren't one of the Dems claiming that 'Fake News on Social Media Cost Hillary the Election' last November? I remember that being the prevailing whine of liberals back before they latched onto bigger schemes, like 'Russia Stole the Election'.

It's a mental health issue. It isn't like we haven't had mentally unstable right wingers murder people because of their political views.

Hillary lost the election primarily due to her lack of campaigning in states she felt too comfortable with. Did fake news on Facebook help Trump? Absolutely, but nobody knows how much.

The right has a way of saying every bad guy is a leftist. Just like how they retroactively try to rewrite history and make authoritarian fascism somehow from the left.

But I don't recall Social media companies scrubbing Dylan Roof's accounts, do you? In fact, every post he made seemed to be reprinted online in WaPo and NYT.

Do you actually want Facebook to cover-up for Hogkinson?

Actually we do know 'how much' Peanut, and it turns out that Hillary Clinton was actually helped more by fake news than Trump was. Stanford University determined that the 3 most influential fake news stories of the election were anti-Trump in nature, and that HRC's supporters were more likely to believe fake news than Trump's supporters were.

This is the classical case of accusing your opponent what you're guilty of, that the left has mastered perfectly.

If we used your ahhhh 'logic' then the rabid right screech radio/ Faux Noise bombardment of President Obama (as all 'good' rabid right ranter doesn't watch or listen to MSM) and the Republicant congress trough feeders constantly calling Obama 'king', unconstitutional, traitor, Muslim, commie and other tripe should have had dozens of rabid right 'Don't Tread on Me!' maniacs attacking democrats and stacking 'em up like cordwood...

You have yet another fail... :peace
