"Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), newly tapped as the GOP vice-presidential nominee, last year joined an effort to enforce the Comstock Act, the 151-year-old federal law that has become a lightning rod in the nation’s abortion debate.

The Comstock Act, which bans the mailing of abortion-related materials, has not been invoked for that purpose in about a century. The Biden administration maintains that its provisions are outdated today. But some Republicans have attempted to resurrect the law to limit or effectively ban abortion nationwide, a position that Vance and other lawmakers conveyed to Attorney General Merrick Garland in a January 2023 letter.

“We demand that you act swiftly and in accordance with the law, shut down all mail-order abortion operations,” Vance and about 40 fellow Republican lawmakers wrote. The Republicans called on the Justice Department to potentially prosecute physicians, pharmacists and others “who break the Federal mail-order abortion laws,” citing additional federal laws that apply to criminal conspiracy and money laundering."

We can expect a national ban on abortion pills through the mail if Trump is elected.

I think the more the American people learn about him, the less they'll like him.

The only way to deliver abortion-related materials is in the mail?

This should energize a few folks to go the polls.

Indeed. This guy is not woman's rights friendly.

The thing is, if the Comstock Act applies to abortion pills going out to people, it would then also apply to any supplies any abortion clinic or even hospital gets for abortions through the mail. It is absolutely not right, not okay to claim this Act applies.

Are you honestly unaware that women receive abortion related materials outside of courier delivery?

So what if they do? Is mail the only way they can get it?

Vance is a real piece of work.

He stalked Harris. Despite the Republican Six's ruling that abortion "should be up to the states", vance wants a nationwide ban AND the prosecution of physicians, pharmacists, and others.

Yesterday I wondered how safe his wife and kids are (from him). The more I find out about him, the more I suspect he could be a predator.

So does the Republican candidate for our governor. He voted 3 times for a nationwide ban and criminal penalties for Drs. And his opponents have had commercial after commercial with doctors talking about their patients' needs and that fact. He's been forced to come out with his own commercial swearing he believes its a state issue and that he wont do anything to overturn our current laws (which include protections for out of state women AND our medical professionals that treat them.)

Sorry, most of us arent that stupid...actions speak louder than words. There's zilch to hold him to "his word" if elected. Unfortunately, he has a really good chance of winning...so we might find out :(
