The US announcement came the same day German Chancellor Olaf Scholz confirmed his government would send Ukraine 14 Leopard 2 battle tanks.

What the Biden administration is saying here is that the Pentagon can't find 31 operational US M1A2 tanks anywhere on this globe for Ukraine.

If this is true (I believe it is a lie), then Gen. Miley should be sacked today. So the Abrams tanks for Ukraine will have to be built from scratch by General Dynamics.

The GD Abrams plant in Lima, Ohio can churn out 12 M1A2 tanks per month and the plant is currently working on fulfilling a contract of 250 M1A2 tanks for Poland.

The plant must also sandwich in some training tanks for Taiwan (buying 108 M1A2 tanks).

Do the math. It may take years for GD to manufacture the 31 US Abrams tanks Biden promised Ukraine.

Honestly, I believe the problem is hat they don't have 31 tanks IN EXCESS OF REQUIREMENTS they can readily access. Most are likely committed to support various Op Plans and Orders and for contingency support.
