US army officer sues police who pointed guns and pepper-sprayed him during traffic stop

The Lt. was being a damned idiot. I don't know why the cops decided that a felony stop was warranted but the Lt. was totally in the wrong with the way he carried on.
Please elaborate. I didn't see him doing anything wrong. What did I miss?

Millions of traffic stops per year.. maybe 100 or so killed (based on quick google search).. Rare.

Anyway, anything to improve the chance (such as showing your hands, etc) would be a good thing, I would think. Shrug.

My dad taught me to keep my hands visible during traffic stops. Having those cops pull their guns on me ensure I always show my hands when stopped.

Since there is no national database for police shooting, and police all over the country have resisted tracking information like this, your claim is meaningless.

It wasn't a felony stop. Nothing he or anyone else did in the video was a felony and he wasn't charged with any crime, not even a misdemeanor. Go ahead and tell us what the felony is.

Oh, I hope his lawsuit involves the department and the local government involved. I'm sure his Command is backing him up, especially with this hitting the mainstream.

I can imagine that this is the main topic all around Hampton, Virginia Beach, Portsmouth, Newport News and Chesapeake!

This cop just assaulted an officer only a few miles away from the biggest military community in the US.

Clearly..there are about a handful of you blaming the lt for his actions..which is what you typically all do in each cop thread. Didn't take long to figure that out.

The lt had every right to ask what was going on. He had every right to not comply with the cops.

But it's the same argument from you guys in these threads. Always blame the victim and narrow the scope of the issue till people wall away.

I don't even need to touch that these tactics are typically of white nationalists..that would just be a cheap shot
The "victimization" of the Lieutenant was a self fulfilling prophecy on his part.

The cops called it in as a felony stop. There's audio of the call on the longer video. It WAS a felony stop. The question is WHY it was called as a felony stop.

It appears that he failed to stop when the cops first engaged him with lights and then, after he pulled over in the gas station, he refused to obey all their other instructions. Every step of the way the Lieutenant made the situation worse for himself.

I think the answer is obvious...

The radio said there was a felony stop, not that this was one. You can't come up with one logical reason why it would be a felony stop because it wasn't. Just magically calling it one doesn't make it so.

I guess that’s why they fired him.
I thought he was were referring to the victim. He said "The Lt. was being a damned idiot. I don't know why the cops decided that a felony stop was warranted but the Lt. was totally in the wrong with the way he carried on."

The town will be very upset if the area gets placed on the off-limits list for all armed forces personnel in the area..

Saw this happen pretty regularly back decades ago when I served..

Maybe it was just a good time that got out of hand?

Why is it when a group of whites smash their way into the Capitol in order to lynch lawmakers who aren't installing a dictator you happen to support is just a good time gone bad for you.

But a black who regardless of whatever mistakes he might have made, was probably overhandled by Security Agents of the State in a way not conducive with what was occuring?

Where are your over the top proclamations and speeches about freedom and the individual?

Stuff to think about.

US army officer sues police who pointed guns and pepper-sprayed him during traffic stop

Lt Caron Nazario, who is Black and Latino, files suit after encounter in which officers referenced execution
Associated Press in Richmond, Virginia

Sat 10 Apr 2021 13.18 EDT

A second lieutenant in the US army is suing two Virginia police officers over a traffic stop last December in which the officers drew their guns, pointed them at him and used a slang term to suggest he was facing execution before pepper-spraying him and knocking him to the ground.

Body camera footage shows Caron Nazario, who is Black and Latino, dressed in uniform and with his hands held in the air outside the driver’s window as he tells the armed officers he is “honestly afraid to get out” of his SUV.

“Yeah, you should be!” one officer responds during the stop at a gas station............

Can't blame the guy for wanting to pull over in a well lit area with power tripping cops like that on the prowl.

Reaching to open the door or undoing the seat belt might give them an excuse to execute him as well.

Then they could say it looked like he was going for a weapon.

What a sad scene.

Racist ****ing cops!

There have been several questionable police shootings over the years here in Portlandia. I'll bet most are shown as good killings that shouldn't.

It wasn't a felony stop. Nothing he or anyone else did in the video was a felony and he wasn't charged with any crime, not even a misdemeanor. Go ahead and tell us what the felony is.
That comes from the police officer radioing it in as a felony stop. That is clearly heard in a video.

Trump ordered a national data base.

Which police are resisting it? I call Bullcrap on this.

That is something else, isn't it. I can't imagine what type of mental disorder that police officer must have.

And yet it wasn't. The cops couldn't give a reason why it would be a felony stop, the guy wasn't charged with anything, and the fat cop is fired. Therefore by definition, it wasn't a felony stop.

Yep.

I would ask one of those fascist pig lovers to explain to us what made it a felony stop.

LMAO... Cops don’t get to “declare” an emergency stop and the courts have to accept that as an explanation for their actions. Every bit of this encounter is up for review and challenge in court.

Even if the cop did pretend it was a felony stop that doesnt mean it was one. For all they know the guy could have been a victim of some kid taking off his license plate. They had NO reason to point a gun at this guy just because the cop didnt see his license plate. Not seeing a license plate doesnt instantly make it a felony stop.

You do realize driving without a license plate isnt a felony unless you repeatedly do it? Its just a tactic cops use to declare it a felony stolen vehicle without any investigation.

Really?

Which video shows that. How long? The video I see is from the second car, when it pulls in, he's already stopped.

Oh, I agree. The fascist pig was lying.
