UPDATED: Fox Reverses Poll Results To Falsely Claim Most Americans Favor Ending Collective Bargaining

On Fox & Friends, co-host Brian Kilmeade claimed, along with an on-screen graphic, that a recent USA Today/Gallup poll found that "61 percent" of Americans are in favor of taking away collective bargaining rights from public unions. In fact, Fox aired the results of the poll completely backward: the Gallup poll found that 61 percent of Americans are opposed to taking away collective bargaining rights.

I guess reading is not their forte.

Your link doesn't go anywhere, but that's ok... We all know it's from Media Matters and we'll ignore it, so no need to fix it.

Here is another link:

Is Fox's Distortion Of Gallup Poll Premeditated Lying Or Across-The-Board Incompetence? | Media Matters for America
This morning, responding to Democratic strategist Robert Zimmerman saying that mainstream Republican governors "are not siding with Governor Walker," host Brian Kilmeade responded that "Gallup, a relatively mainstream poll, has a differing view." Kilmeade then completely inverted the poll results, claiming that 61 percent supported ending collective bargaining for public employee unions.

At the end of the show, Kilmeade offered a brief correction, saying that he "had it reversed" when discussing the poll.

Now, it's possible that Kilmeade's butchering of the poll results can be chalked up to his inability to read a poll or misspeaking.

However, it wasn't just Kilmeade who "had it reversed." Fox News had a graphic ready to go that repeated Kilmeade's distortion, suggesting that this misrepresentation was premeditated by the network:

WOW FoxNews gave inaccurate results? SHOCKING!!!!

Waiting for all the FAUXNews fans to come out claiming that it was just yet another honest mistake from their favorite propoganda source.

Where its from doesn't change the fact. We don't like all your topics for example but sometimes you do offer facts along side your opinion, should we ignore those facts as being factual because we dislike the opinions and conclusions you draw from?

Don't you always criticize CNN and MSNBC (seriously I may be wrong but I thought you did)? If so, what ground do you have to stand on sticking up for Fox. Fox is at least as bad if not worse than both of those channels.

*Edit:

Wait, yeah, as soon as I look I see a Grim17 thread titled "Maddow lies her ass off" or something along those lines. Yeah Grim17, you have a lot of credibility. :)

From yuor MMA link...
UPDATE: Kilmeade issued a correction during the final minute of Fox & Friends -- 44 minutes after the error -- saying: "I want to correct a poll that we did about 22 minutes ago from Gallup. Sixty-one percent oppose taking collective bargaining away from those people in Wisconsin; 33 percent in favor. I had it reversed. I apologize." In fact, the poll asked if people would oppose a similar law in their own states. A graphic was aired correctly showing that 61 percent of those polled oppose taking collective bargaining away:
corrected graphic...

But of course., you bury their correction in a poor attempt to minimize it. Had Madcow done this, you certainly would not have started a thread on it, now would you.

Of course not... because when she does it, it's a simple mistake. But when FOX does it, EVIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What is the sound of a political forum, not giving a crap about a thread??? listen carefully........

That's Media Matters for you. Post a video that only shows what they want you to see. What a load of crap. They could have least put the correction in the video.
Oh, never mind, that would defeat their purpose of hoping people would read the headline, watch the video and click on something else without bothering to read. Sometimes I swear they hope people just read the headline and move on, so they don't see how ridiculous the whole thing is.

I didn't bury anything, Whovian, In fact I posted this: "At the end of the show, Kilmeade offered a brief correction, saying that he "had it reversed" when discussing the poll."

Fact is Media Matters posted that Kilmeade made the correction, however when Media Matters makes an error and subsequently corrects it, you don't accept it. Hypocrite!!!

Whoa, hang on a minute.

Wasn't it you who asked someone to PROVE that Rachel Maddow INTENTIONALLY LIED when she completely misstated something that was flat out wrong? And on top of that, she NEVER corrected herself.

Yet with FNC, they correct themselves 20 minutes later and you ignore that?

You really are turning out to be a piece of *************, you know that?

Yes. He did...

Pretty sure saying 'premeditated misrepresentation' is the same as saying 'they lied'. At least on this planet.

Re: UPDATED: Fox Reverses Poll Results To Falsely Claim Most Americans Favor Ending C

I sure know when I'm trying to do premeditated misrepresentation I always try to come back shortly after and correct myself and admit to an error on national television. It makes that premeditated misrepresentation so much better.

Ockham's razor folks. The simplest answer is the person that dissiminated the information got it wrong, and then when someone pointed it out they took the effort to highlight their mistake and correct it.

But no, it must actually be a huge conspiracy by Fox News to misrepresent information, and then a second huge conspiracy to come out and admit they made a mistake and give the correct information so as to give cover for their purposeful misrepresentation while seemingly ignoring the fact that pointing out their mistake erases much of the good said misrepresentation may've done.

this is the umpteenth time faux news has manipulated the facts to the detriment of the progressives and/or the benefit of the pseudoconservatives

and how do you feel about the multiple lies Madcow has told over the years (posted in another thread)? Any outrage there?

That's Media Matters for you. Post a video that only shows what they want you to see. What a load of crap. They could have least put the correction in the video.

They posted the correction. Next time you should read something if you want to complain about it.

As should you.

Barb quite clearly is saying that they did NOT show the video of the correction (does the phrase, heavily edited video ring any bells?), and hoped no one would bother to read far enough down to the few sentences where they mention the correction made by FOX.

It seems to me, you can debate an issue without the name calling, this isn't the first time, YOU HAVE BEEN REPORTED.

There's an old saw that goes something like this:

Any time a person or entity makes a "mistake" that puts extra money (or power)
in their pocket, expect them to make that "mistake" again and again and again.

;)

Re: UPDATED: Fox Reverses Poll Results To Falsely Claim Most Americans Favor Ending C

Barb quite clearly is saying that they did NOT show the video of the correction

They have the video of the correction right under that headline that says "Update". I just watched it. It's there. Trust me on this one.

If she's trying to complain that they should have put the correction up above the actual mistake then tell her to take it elsewhere. Corrections are always (everytime I've ever seen one) posted under the actual article or section with an updated or correction headline. If her main grievance is that MM did post the correction and a video of the correction but they didn't put it exactly where she thinks it should have been then I say that no one should give a **** what she thinks because obviously she's too partisan to evaluate anything honestly. They posted the correction. Asking them to do anything beyond that is being a whiny prick.
