Russia lies about everything. No matter what they say "everything is going according to Putin's plan". I doubt they even have accurate number of their dead. They have left 1000's of Russian corpses on the battlefields in Ukraine and then report them as missing so they don't have to pay the families. Russia has the most corrupt military in the world.

So she surrepticiously wrote down the name and military number of one frozen corpse. When she returned to Russia, she looked up the name and visited the soldier's family. They had no idea their son was dead and that his body was frozen in Chechnya. Ms. Politkovskaya's Novaya Gazeta (New Newspaper) articles from Chechnya were highly embarassing to the Kremlin.
