Ukraine ‘strikes Russian airfields destroying nuke bombers’ in huge drone blitz as footage shows aircraft up in flames

Imagine hysterically attacking someone because she is a widely acknowledged historian on Russia, Pulitzer Prize winning journalist, and longtime and extensively published academic because the attacker resents that our country has used her expertise to inform our intelligence gathering.

Oh dear. Can't have that, can we?

LOL indeed.
OMG, even after I showed you in the past that she's an intelligence asset and not a journalist you double down on your support for her. 🤣🤣🤣

with US Ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt by his side and Victoria Nuland lurking in the background.
The three of them stood there like architects admiring their handiwork, proud of the coup they helped engineer to topple Ukraine’s democratically elected president, Yanukovych, and plunge the country into turmoil.

Yep. The cost and technology for this operation doesn't seem very prohibitive. The asymmetry in the bomber's vulnerability to drones is pretty striking.

The skills and groundwork required to get drones that far into Russia should not be overlooked though.

They literally brought a truck across Finish and Norwegian borders and just drove it to the destinations and then bailed out and after 1-2 days launched the drones.

The long story short here, this can be repeated near all NATO airfields especially those close to cities which most of them are. And if somebody says Diego Garcia somehow is more safe since it is on an Island, what literally stops a ship, a boat or anything else swimming near the island and launching the drones. Lets say a container ship has 1 container with those drones and swims relatively nearby....

The Russians are already paranoid. So if Ukrainian special ops guys are driving trucks carrying drones thousands of kilometers into Russian territory and destroying Russia’s bomber fleet,
that means more delays and inconvenience for legitimate Russian commerce. It will require more monitoring—documentation, inspections, highway checkpoints, and such.
They already do that to some extent, so I’m curious as how the Ukrainians were actually able to carry this out.

The bolded is my biggest take-away.

I will not be the least bit surprised if Ukraine is or has already acquired at least one nuclear device.
Seeing as how we just BROKE a very serious and solemn treaty in exchange for them giving up their nukes it is probably crystal clear that Ukraine needs to go the Israeli route, that is, acquiring them and refusing to admit they have them or don't have them.

Of course the problem is, if they do have them and don't admit to it, it limits their negotiating power.
Anyway, I won't blame them one bit if they do get their hands on them. We can't be trusted to stick to our treaties and promises anymore.

The best thing that ever happened for the west, that we are squandering, has been the value of Ukraine NOT being a vassal of Russia. Such a bright and clever people outshine Russians, by far. Denying the Russian orcs access to those brains is more important than ever.

They literally are the best tool for a proxy war. I've never seen better! (y)

Those strikes on Russian bombers, rail lines, airfields, and bridges weren’t just Ukraine acting alone, they were coordinated, funded and authorized by NATO.
The West is pulling the trigger.

The further NATO drives attacks into Russian territory, the closer it drags its own cities toward retaliation and destruction.
This won't stay one-sided forever.

What's good for the goose is good for the gander! (y)

Hah! (y)

Also Sprach Zarathustra!
Ok...if were going to go down that road....

Just imagine the first movement.....the sneaking in of trucks and gear.....then the drones being set free.
Then the second part with the tympani.
Music nerds...I give you....

Amazing. 1/3 of RU's "strategic aviation"? I'm blown-away by this. Simply blown-away.

One of the reasons the SBU is so effective is that 11,000,000 Russian families BEFORE the war had Ukrainian family connections of some type. And as half of Ukraine speaks Russian anyway, so it isn't a challenge to find individuals who can pass for Russian citizens (in Ukraine there are many times more Russian speakers than there are ethnic Russians).

Still, it is amazing that so many drones with warheads could be infiltrated into Russia, mounted on trucks, and driven to various locations loaded with these weapons without any snafu. And the timing was perfect.

The only part I am disappointed with is that this is a "one off" method of attack. Obviously, measures will be taken to make it more difficult to try again. But given that Russia has stripped may of its air defenses to defend Moscow and targets near Ukraine, the window of future opportunity may yet be open at least one more time.

That RU has to react, it part of the appeal.

Nonsense! The more we learn about this operation, the higher our admiration and thanks, yes thanks, for these brave and ingenious actions.

Ukraine should enter NATO asap! They have the best and most seasoned army in the western world!

But TACO has been bought by Putin!

It's an interesting dilemma for Russia. This seems like something that might warrant a nuclear response (at least in some people's eyes), but they also want Ukraine to be a functional part of Russia. Perhaps they will opt for a smaller "tactical" nuclear strike, designed to show that they are, in fact, willing to use them. OTOH, this also could be seen as a way of confirming to the world that Ukraine has seriously compromised them in conventional warfare. Not a good look.
Putin will kill as many Ukrainians as necessary in order to free them from the western world

Ummmm, forgive me if I am wrong comrade, but isn't that a Russian tactic called "Whataboutism"?

Not even close. I was pointing out you using CIA talking points by accusing anyone who criticizes the war as supporting Russia.

Whataboutism is a bullshit term that just means dont hold me to the same standard I hold you to.

Way to go!!👍👍

Summary

A swarm of Ukrainian drones have attacked a number of military airbases deep inside Russia’s borders and left more than 40 bomber aircraft in flames, according to Ukrainian officials.

Sources say FPV drones were smuggled into Russia, along with mobile wooden cabins. The cabins were carried by trucks with the drones hidden inside. The cabin roofs opened remotely - and then the drones took off and zoned in on the nearby bases.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described the operation as "an absolutely brilliant result" and said the Ukrainians' actions will "undoubtedly be in the history books".

He said planning for the operation began 18 months ago, and those involved “were withdrawn from Russian territory in time".

Moscow said Ukraine carried out a "terrorist attack" in five regions but they were "repelled". Russia's defence ministry added multiple participants in the operation had been arrested.

Russian and Ukrainian officials are due to meet in Istanbul tomorrow but, as BBC Monitoring's Russia editor Vitality Shevchenko writes, these attacks "won't necessarily alter the course of talks".

Drone mounted video included in article.

This may end up as a Netflix movie or documentary.

All you ever showed on any subject is just the "big lie", crazy claims unsupported by any evidence. On the other hand, we are sure you aren't a journalist because you don'tt get the Pulitzer for Nola Dude posts, that is for sure.
