Senators diverted $2.6 billion in funds in a defense spending bill to pet projects largely at the expense of accounts that pay for fuel, ammunition and training for U.S. troops, including those fighting wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, according to an analysis.
Among the 778 such projects, known as earmarks, packed into the bill: $25 million for a new World War II museum at the University of New Orleans and $20 million to launch an educational institute named after the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, Massachusetts Democrat.

Money and troops should be pulled out of the war steadily until the entire pullout, but that money could be spent on better things than this.

Like welfare and earmarks, right?Money and troops should be pulled out of the war steadily until the entire pullout, but that money could be spent on better things than this.
That is... insurance towards the re-eletction of Democrats...Like welfare and earmarks, right?
It's unfortunate that some Republicans were involved. :3oops:That is... insurance towards the re-eletction of Democrats...
Indeed. It's unfortunate that some Republicans were involved. :3oops:
the libbos? did you read your link? seems senators on both sides inserted their share of earmarks.I jus don't know what to say about this. I think we're probably all thinking the same thing. However, I would like to know why the hell they wanna build a WW2 museum at UNO. The Libbos need to tell their side of the story, or does New Orleans just need two WW2 museums? I remember about 10 years ago when UNO wanted to evict the Confederate Museum from the Memorial Hall and turn it into an artsy-fartsy picture museum, so the WW2 museusm at UNO surely didn't have anything to do with real history. It was probably going to be The Museum of American War Crimes during WW2.
Mr. Inouye had a total of 35 earmarks worth more than $206 million in the final bill, and the ranking Republican on the committee, Sen. Thad Cochran of Mississippi, sponsored 48 worth $216 million.
Mr. Cochran defended earmarking as part of Congress' responsibility to direct government spending.
because it's a no win situation. you can't change a culture in a few years, ask the soviets.I agree. I'm not sure why we're still mired in Afghanistan.
You're late to the party, we already made this point.the libbos? did you read your link? seems senators on both sides inserted their share of earmarks.
This has been addressed. Try to keep upthe libbos? did you read your link? seems senators on both sides inserted their share of earmarks.

You most likely will never make much of a dent in Afghanistan's cultural traditions. Now we've driven the Taliban into Pakistan where they are wrecking havoc.
American would do best to invest all that wasted money in alternative fuel sources and wash it's hands of that part of the world.

Like Nuclear?
I agree with much of your post, but you are preaching to deaf ears or the choir. It's time for Americans to stop labeling themselves as Democrat, Republican, Independent, Green and or any other party and start looking at themselves as Americans who believe in the Constitution and survival of the way of life that made it possible for for us to become the greatest Nation the world has ever known until now.
Obama and his communist far lst leaning followers, defenders, and republicans who are in office only to further their own agendas are domestic enemies as described in the in most oaths of office, including the one I took. I point out to you regardless of the party you claim as your own that if you tool an oath it has nothing in it that says it's limited to to the time you are either in office or in the military. It's for life.
The War in Afghanistan at the outset had a noble goal at it's core to route out and destroy Al Qaeda and bring Osama Bin Laden to justice. Now at the risk of being attacked again by people claiming to be Patriotic Americans I think it's typical of most politicians to take what they can to further their appearance back home so they can stay in office another term and continue to sit back and allow good Americans to be killed trying to do the job they take seriously.
It's up to us to see that right now a Communist has taken over the White House and is doing everything possible to destroy this Nation. I give a damn how much you think you have the right to get even for the mistakes of the Bush era stop and use you brain and read the history of this Nation and what it is supposed to stand for and not let dreams of Neo National Socialists take everything form everyone. A short study of history will show you that what sounds good to people at the outset always ends in failure and destruction not only of the Nation involved but in the lives of people who help to bring these Leftists to power in the end. Today so many young idealistic uneducated who believe in the redistribution of of wealth have no idea what they are doing or that what they are wishing for will eliminate their ability to protest and have ideas as they do and most all other rights they enjoy.

Big fan. Replace all fossil-fuel plants with nukes.
Never mind that we're energy independent when it comes to generating electricity.
