It is cost effective/humane and a remedy for the millions and millions of migrants that came in under Biden asylum claims were so defferred most would never qualify. Biden didn't care. Just what made him so abuse immigration isn't as important as finding a decent way to get rid of the migrants (instead of them just disappearing into the country) that doesn't subject them to arrest in the meantime, and gives them a stipend to land on their feet back in their home country.

The criminal migrants got to go - minimal due processing that SCOTUS requires, a path way for innocent migrants who can't get asylum based on economic hard ship, coupled with the border now fully secured would be as good as an outcome as possible

This is an excellent incentive for migrants without visas to self-deport on their own terms - AND they will be able to return to the U.S. IF they follow established immigration protocols.

If ICE catches them and deports them, then of course their trip home will be on ICE's terms, and those are generally unpleasant. Also, deported aliens are not allowed to return to the U.S.

It is a good idea. I suggest they up the payoff amount as running the gestapo, er ICE, rounding up people, holding them, playing out the due process, then deporting them has to be rather costly, not to mention cruel, and a poor look for the US on the world stage.... paying them $5K or $10K per person, or more, just to leave on their own is likely far more humane and cost effective.

But Trump planned on deporting 15-20 million, so this could run into real money.
