Most sane people know your sick from your stupid avatar. You should try living in Russia if you like it so much. Americans died so people like YOU are now free to be as stupid as you are.
The Soviets were underarmed, underfed and underresourced not due to communism -- by the end of the war, the Soviet Union had the largest military-industrial complex in history. They were underarmed, underfed and underresourced because the largest military in human history (Operation Barbarossa) had just taken them by surprise, and they were busy sending every man they could find to the front so the entirety of Europe didn't fall to Nazi control.
As well, the Soviets were in the Pacific, where they routed the Japanese Kwantung Army, which, I might add, accounted for 65% of all Japanese military personnel.
.
I lived in the Soviet Union for significant parts of my child and adult life. I've also lived in the States. I greatly prefer the former.
Russian and British people died so American people can claim credit for the freedom we now have.
After the Battle of Britain, I'm not sure how the Nazi's would gain a foothold in the UK. Economic isolation from the continent may have relegated the UK to also rans eventually, but there's no earthly possibility that the Germans posed a threat to the North American continent and their freedoms. Stop with the bull**** effort to minimise their WW2 contributions in Europe.
That's right; the ones that we killed to maintain our freedom. I thank them for their sacrifice. I'm all about, "making that other poor dumb bastard die for his country".
Maybe through, I don't know, Ireland? XD
A joke.
But, even so -- the world is round, and the British Empire covered a third of it. If Britain fell after the Soviet Union, Canada, too, would become a state in flux, not to mention Chuktoka's proximity to Alaska.
Anyway, it doesn't matter. Things happened differently. I'm just seeing to it that the Soviets get credit for their immense sacrifice in that war, instead of being demonised by their political enemies for an ideological dick length contest that happened afterwards.
Uh.. When did Americans kill Russians for their freedom?
Afghanistan. We sent a buncha Soviet ****ers to meet Lenin back in the 80's.
If the Soviet Union had capitulated to the Wehrmacht, and relinquished the largest stockpile of manpower, resources and industry on Earth at the time to the Nazis, the Anglo-Americans wouldn't have been able to stand for long.
But to say the Soviets were fighting for the freedom of the UK and US is disingenuous at best and an outright lie at worst. They were fighting for national survival, and you know it...

There weren't any American troops there. Just CIA-funded mujahedeen. I don't understand what you're saying.
Are you just a blatant racist, and you take delight in the deaths of people of other nationalities than your own (if so, never look up the history of Vietnam)? Or is there a point you're trying to make?
Alright, that's fair. They most certainly were not fighting for the Brits or Americans. But they were fighting with the Brits and Americans, something people like apdst find hard to swallow.
Why is that so hard for me to accept? I don't think I ever said anything to the contrary. All I ever said, is that the Soviets--nor the Brits--decided the outcome of WW2, all by themselves. If not for American involvement, you would have lost your asses.

That's simply not true. It's wishful thinking, from a wishful nation. You're like teenagers. You think you're the best, invincible, and you think you've got fresh new ideas and a glorious past. You think you're the centre of the world. You're really not, and some day, you, as a nation, will grow up and realise that. When you do, we'll all be at the adult table waiting for you.
We trained'em, we armed'em, so through our military prowess and superior weapons systems, we killed the **** out of some Soviets.
It's a point I'm trying to make, but it's also that I take delight in the deaths of any mother****ers that threaten my country and my people. My people are the American people, regardless of their race, color, religion, creed, or national origin.
We kicked the **** out of the Brits and the Russians. I'd say we're some purdy bad ass mother****ers.
When did you kick the **** out of the Brits? The French won your War of Independence for you, and you lost the War of 1812. The only time Americans fought Soviet troops was in the intervention in the Russian Civil War, and the Americans got their asses handed to them there.
The French? LOL! Hell they lost to themselves!
j-mac

I hate to agree with apdst, but he's on the money here. Other allies may have sacrificed more and done a lot of the heavy lifting, but without US involvement in WWII, and in both the European and Pacific Theaters, the Allies would have been toast.
