U. California students remove offensive American flag from 'inclusive' space
The legislation argues that flags may be interpreted differently; the American flag, for example, can represent “American exceptionalism and superiority,” as well as oppression.

“[T]he American flag has been flown in instances of colonialism and imperialism,” the bill continues, arguing that “symbolism has negative and positive aspects that are interpreted differently by individuals.”
Let them feel the pain of canceled scholarships.

I find the Flag of Zimbabwe offensive, Red, yellow and green? Talk about an ugly color combination, Gives Me a headache whenever I look at it.

Tragedy averted. The flag was protected by veto. America will prevail.

Meanwhile back in real America...National chapter of SAE fraternity dissolves OU chapter. Seems the OU boys do not like others of different color.

Dumb ban. Glad it was vetoed. Should be free to fly any flag

So, the American flag represents imperialism?

You know, the US has done some ****ed up things, especially lately. But I know when the US joined us in that little scrap against the Nazi's we Canadians were pretty grateful.

And I have always rejected the concept of "love it or leave it", but denying the presence of the flag to other Americans, and Canadians who still see honor in our cousins and the flag they have chosen. This is a kind of censorship, not allowing the emblem of 500 years of carving a culture out of this continent is denying others who may disagree to see that emblem and pay the respect they feel is due.

I wonder how they and their supporters would feel if we joined them, and the next Canada-USA hockey game we boo the national anthem.

It's a ridiculous and petty way to make a point, a rather dull point, but a point they are allowed to make.

I think Mr. Condell makes the case quite eloquently why we have students voting to remove the flag because some may find it offensive.

Greetings, Vesper. :2wave:

Mr. Condell's viewpoint is well stated! Thanks for posting!

Update: UCI's student government's executive members voted to veto legislation that banned national flags from it's inclusive main lobby. Reza Zommorodian, the ASUCI president, called for a special closed door meeting Saturday afternoon. Zomorrodian has vocalized his disapproval of the legislation since it passed and said most students shared his sentiment.

A few ***hole radical students did not win this one, Vesper, though they tried. If they don't like America, they should leave! WTH is the matter with them? ,
