Twitter sued over antisemitic posts left online

Twitter is basically failing to remove posts attacking Jews and denying the Holocausts. And by not taking action on these posts Twitter is in violation of German law, and thus sued by the European Union of Jewish Students (EUJS), and the German anti- hate speech organization HateAid. Hate speech laws in several countries are much stricter than in the US, and Twitter risks being found in violation of several laws in several countries for not moderating their site to filter it out.

One does get the sense that the only nation on the planet that values free speech is the United States.

Germany had better be careful. They may find themselves being hated by German citizens who are pissed off when Musk pulls Twitter out of their country.

Elon is proving himself to be a complete dumb**** when it comes to social media antisemitism appears to be ok according to Elon but calling MTG a bimbo is a bannable offense. I kid you not.

No one should be allowed to deny obvious genocides.

The Holocaust, the Cambodian massacre, the Rwanda massacre, etc., were so horrific that there are no words in any language to describe accurately the sheer horror.

Just saw a video of what the Nazis did to Jewish people in Ukraine during World War II. They just slaughtered Jewish people without any semblance of remorse.

So Germany is right to ban such comments. After all, young people are very impressionable.

Hate speech is not free speech.
It should be. IMO, it is a terrible mistake to give government the authority to decide which words can and cannot be uttered when those words cause no direct harm.

Hate speech is reprehensible, but it should not be illegal.

LMAO… twitter needs every dime of advertising revenue it can get…

Musk should be more worried about the EU..

This stands in direct opposition to Musk's RWNJ vision.

Should we imprison those who do?
No, but they should not be allowed to express such views on the Internet.

How can anyone who has seen even only one film of the Holocaust want to deny it?

The sheer inhumanity is simply beyond belief.

Imagine: In the 1920s, Jewish people in Germany were enjoying nice ordinary lives. In the 1930s, they were being herded onto boxcars like cattle.

That's true, and it's yet another reason why the political left hates the US.

And how do you feel about this?

This is going to become a practical impossibility for a social media platform to conform to nation specific hate speech laws seeing such disparity nation to nation. Lawsuits nation to nation may speed up design aspects for these platforms but I sense the speed of political whim will collide with practical design.

I agree, Holocaust deniers are a lower form of life. And if privately run platforms do not wish that garbage on their site, they have the right to enact terms of service to prevent it. But that's not what I'm talking about here.

We're discussing whether a government should have the authority to prosecute people simply for saying the "wrong" things. Do you support giving governments that level of authority, or not?

So now we have to child-proof the world? If yes, then let's make it illegal to promote Marxism, as the death toll from Marx's ideas dwarf the body count from Nazism.

If Twitter does not remove such comments, then the government should indeed have the power to prohibit such comments.

They do it everyday... In fact, some of those "employees who weren't doing anything that Musk fired" did EXACTLY that kind of work...

The problem many on the left have, and we can see it here in this thread, is they hold the reckless belief they have a right to not be offended.

See post 23. You are giving governments far too much authority by doing that. They will begin to prosecute not just what offends you, but also what offends them.
