Tweet of the Week: AOC’s “student debt”

AOC is never short of words. Whether they ever make any sense is another matter.
You have chosen ignorance. Nothing I can do.

Can't really disagree there. Most of the schools are state run schools though, why are the states raising tuition?
Some people have tried to paint it as having a single cause, like federally-backed student loans. In reality, it's like most of the problems in our country. There's not one cause, there's many. Growth in administrative overhead, schools racing against each other with lavish facilities, not enough competition in a regional market, lack of transparency in the real costs... it's a big mess.

You know what we should stop doing? Yelling at the students who had nothing to do with creating these problems. Stop calling them "lazy" or "greedy" for just wanting college to be attainable like it was for their parents. My dad paid for college with a part time job putting potatoes into a big machine that chopped them up. Trying to do that now is laughably impossible. It's supposed to be our goal that the next generation has things easier than we did. We failed. Let's not leave it to them to solve.

Is it possible to have a negative IQ?
No.

But...how would Trump acolytes ever figure that out?

I must say, however, that the irony of seeing Trump folk in threads like this attempt to question the "IQ" of folk who are clearly their intellectual superiors....is always worth a nice chuckle on this end. 🤣

Fixed it for ya.

Anytime you have a chance to put the next generation in a giant economic hole for doing the thing you pretty much absolutely need to do to get a good job, you have to.

It's weird. Almost like the whole system was set up by people who paid off miniscule debt decades ago and are now just financially preying on people. How unlike America.

That invisible government hand making loans available to all, regardless of ability to pay it back certainly didn't help. None of the issues you bring up helped.
But the people responsible for the choices they make in are the people making the choices.
Either they invest in themselves and it pays off or it doesn't. I am totally on board with doing things that reduce higher ed costs, eliminating all current and future student debt is not one of them.

I can't agree to pay for people to continue to make bad decisions.

What a strange world you see.

How would potential students, as a class, be worse off with equal protection of the laws regarding employment at the will of either party in our at-will employment States, for unemployment compensation?

I only wish I could ignore AOC.
I wish you could too, but here you are. Posting a thread about her based on a statement you haven't actually read.

You must not know many college educated people. I know tons with good jobs who are paying off student debt 15 years later.

That happens a lot with 30k in debt and making a minimum payment. Interest rates are too good to prioritize federal loan debt over credit cards or other debt.

Ever had a credit card?

You have no idea. But even if you did, it wouldn't matter, because back to the point (and I could not have said it better):

👏 Pay 👏 your 👏 own 👏 darn 👏 bills. 👏

Does this preclude me from advocating for a much better system? Or are you like every other conservative on this forum and you just insist on doing things the way we did it yesterday because that was also the way we did it the day before that?

I think functioning adults have an obligation to live up to their contracts and pay their debts. I think anyone who demands someone else pay their debts ought to be embarrassed.

I have. I pay it all off every month. Most kids out of college don't have that luxury of paying off their student debt like that. You need a college education these days just to get your foot in the door.

Never mind if you try to own a home or have kids or have a medical emergency, etc.

What question are you answering? Also, I think it is safe to say no one cares what you think.

However, feel free to go to bat for big banks in the name of preserving a clearly broken system.

The point was that you prioritize the debt with the highest interest rate. So of course, people pay on a $30k-50k debt for a long time, it's like buying a car only a much better investment (as long as you major in something with good financial return)

Then I suggest you read the OP as you’re clearly confused on what this thread is about.

As for no one caring about what I write here, your repeated replies to my posts are evidence that you care. Though if you’d rather gum-up some other thread that would be fine with me.

I didn't vote for Donald Trump. Either time.

Are you sure it's not possible to have a negative IQ? After only one post I have confidence in you to make history with it.
