Oh, it was lame.

Excellent video about marching and maneuvering, drill and ceremony,
The Trump Parade Massacre of 2025 was abysmally bad for sure. There were no rehearsals or practices which troops need when they march only occasionally. Yet some practice and at least one rehearsal of the whole thingy would not have made much difference anyway. The Army top brass intended for the parade to stink the place out and by virtually all accounts the troops delivered the disaster faithfully and dispassionately. After all, practicing to look bad by troops who hardly ever march just isn't considered necessary or desired.
The marchers wore their "work" camos which brought their attitude toward the parade down significantly. I mean you wear you camos when you're sweeping the barracks floor or doing field exercises at Camp Muddy Hole. No rifles at shoulder arms was the killer though. Indeed, if the infantry are doing something without their rifle you know it's not serious. I think I saw one marching unit at sling arms which is like taking a hike instead of marching.
American military marching is anyway called a "Walk March." Which means you march at attention, arms moving 9" to the front and 6" to the rear from the seam of your trousers. This is the basis of what we saw in the parade but that was modified downward in quality by what the Army brass made clear through the chain of command they expected, which was proceeding "By The Route Step." The route step is used when you're proceeding through snow or a flood -- you just make your way individually as best each grunt can manage. The route step is anathema to a dignified parade which is why the Army brass put the word out to do it because of the Generalissimo Trump and Hegseth The Horrible.
The British march manual is, as the narrator mentioned, centuries old. The big arm swing is associated with monarchy and colonies. The "natural" walking arm swing of the US armed forces is associated with democracies. The US also almost never does the royal slow march we saw the Brits do in the video which is also associated with monarchy and their colonies. US armed forces consider the royal slow march to be stupid and a ridiculous bunch of nonsense -- they're almost never asked or required to do a slow march that requires painstaking practice to get the stupid timing right.
Here's the Army ceremonial infantry regiment in the Military District of Washington DC doing a pass in review at their Ft. Myer garrison. It's only elements of the 3rd Infantry Regiment The Old Guard of the Army rather than the full turnout of 'em. Some TOG troops in their dress blues led the Trump parade massacre and showed us what the deliberate disaster that was coming up behind 'em was gonna look like. This video is serious American military walk marching at its absolute finest. The every time pass in review music by the Army Band is "The Old Guard March."

In classic style, the US Army Old Guard passes in review. Included are the Continental Color Guard, the Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps, and a company 3rd Infantry Soldiers in the Continental uniforms of Gen. Washington's Commander in Chief Guard.. The Old Guard is also the 3rd Infantry Regiment.
Commander of troops is the Colonel CO of the Old Guard Regiment. Two platoons of three companies march, from Bravo Guard, Charlie Guard then after the Continental Color Guard is Echo Guard aka Honor Guard Company which is the company I was in many moons before this parade. Alpha Cpy is the exact replica of Gen. Washington's Commander in Chief Guard; Fife & Drum Corps does the royal colonial slow march pass in review for old times sake ha.
