[h=1]Greece election: Alexis Tsipras hails 'victory of the people'[/h]

Alexis Tsipras has hailed a "victory of the people" after his left-wing Syriza party won Greece's fifth election in six years.
He said Greeks faced a difficult road and that recovery would only come through hard work.
The conservative New Democracy party earlier conceded defeat. Link.

More lives than a cat...

I suspect he won as many votes from people appalled at the prospect of the ND kleptocracy returning to power as he did from those enthusiastic about his leadership. He's almost certainly the best person for the job of those available, but that's not saying a huge amount. If he can properly tackle the joint issues of internal governmental corruption and external tax evasion then he may achieve something of lasting worth for Greece. I wish him luck.

Syriza is pretty much a new version of Pasok now. Hopefully they can keep themselves clean and learn from their trial by fire.

Ouch! Let's hope that doesn't prove to be true.

It could be that Syriza took the "bailout deal" to buy more time, or had no other choice.

Boy are the Greek voters sure dumb- Syriza sold them out and yet they vote for them again lol

Yeah, 'cos ND, Golden Dawn and Pasok never did anything wrong, did they? Who do you think they should have voted for? The corrupt old guard who got them into the s*** in the first place?

I never endorsed the other side either, they all seem the same to me.

That's a pretty evasive, non-answer. Typical. I'll try again, just for kicks.

So, who do you think the Greeks should have voted for?

I did give you an answer: its called none of the above. A concept you cant seem to grasp.

so...basically Greece has voted to take on 80 billion in additional debt as a solution to 300 billion in debt.

They could have voted for The River or Union of Centrists. But Greeks made up all kinds of reasons why those parties are terrible.

I think Greeks just love the rhetoric of Syriza, but they didn't like their outcome. So what Greece needs is a strong leader who tries to challenge the EU, but in private meetings he will agree to what EU wants.

Great start Alex.
:doh
In an otherwise predictable ministerial line-up that included the appointment of a retired army general as police minister, the naming of Dimitris Kammenos as deputy minister of infrastructure, transport and networks emerged as the most contentious given the content of many of his commentary on social media in recent years.
Mr Kammenos is an MP with the nationalist Independent Greeks party, which Alexis Tsipras again chose as his junior coalition partner after winning Sunday’s general election.
In 2013 tweet on the anniversary of 9/11, Mr Kammenos suggested that a Jewish conspiracy was to blame for the attack on the World Trade Center: “Let’s not forget. Of the 2,500 Jews who worked in the Twin Towers, none of them turned up for work that day.”
When challenged by another Twitter user about the claim, Mr Kammenos, no relation of Independent Greeks leader Panos Kammenos, replied: “F*** your Talmud.”
