Is Trump's timing on this going to work for him, or against him?
Is it way too early? Can he generate the funding for such an extended campaign?

Was this the smart move to make?

It’s too soon to tell, but Trump (as does the MSM) works in mysterious ways.

Is it way too early?

Someone had to be first.

Can he generate the funding for such an extended campaign?

How much funding does it take to be the only RNC POTUS primary candidate? After all, if you are (officially) the only one running you are likely to be the (official) ‘current front runner’.

Was this the smart move to make?

Likely not, but it’s too soon to tell. Trump likely sees this as a way to change (elevate?) his status and thus gain more (free) media attention.

Speech went over like a limp biscuit. Bland, boring, uninspiring. Even the crown on hand was half asleep, and couldn't muster up the energy or interest to put forth the facade of giving two hoots. Don't really think the timing was overly germane to the low energy speech effort by Trump.

He's hoping Garland will stick with his policy of not going after people running for office.

From the pictures I've seen, he wasn't flanked by his kids.

Have they too grown tired of the circus their daddy creates?

Timing is off for his announcement, he will regret tipping his hand so soon.

Yes, but this is traditionally way way early isn't it?

Yep.

And does being first have a benefit to it?

In some aspects (like getting more free ‘news’ media attention) yes, but it also gives potential (same party) competitors a preview of which (of Trump’s popular) issue positions can be improved upon and/or which (of Trump’s unpopular) issue positions to avoid sharing/adopting (or at least advertising).

I don't know... donations can run out if they are asked for over and over again for years.
People might get tired of donating.

You're likely right.
However,
AfaIk, Trump has not stopped asking for donations since 2015.

That point where Trumpco customers get tired of of purchasing Trumpco bullshit may still be a ways off.

He obviously feels he has to. Did you notice how lame and unexcited he was making his announcement speech? I don't think he really wants to run, I think he thinks he has to to obstruct any legal action against him and to recoup his reputation. He can't stand being a loser.

The timing is significant, because it's the earliest any presidential candidate has announced, but that's pretty much the only extraordinary thing about it. Legal experts claim it won't shield him from prosecution, but he's desperate and is hoping it will.

No, no benefit. It might actually work against Trump since it gives his fellow Republican opponents like DeSantis to do oppo research and further tear him down.

Ivanka wasn't there. I did see Erik as Trump was exiting the venue.. Not sure if Don Jr., Barron, or Tiffany were there, or not. Ivanka issued a statement after the speech stating "I don't plan to be involved in politics. I will always love my father, but I will do it outside of the political arena."

OTHER

The Donald just does NOT get it.

He is what I think they call "damaged goods."

Because of the very successful scorched earth policy conducted against him by the Deep State (which includes most of the media) and because of his admittedly obnoxious personality, he is unelectable.

Too bad the DOJ is probably going to throw him to the wolves (AKA Democratic jurors).

It would be nice to just let him fade away instead.

There are some really good moderate & pleasant candidates for the Republican nomination (Ron is not one of them.)

Ivanka has announced she's not going to be a part of any of it. She's abandoned daddy.

Yep, in his (very narcissistic) mind it likely transforms him from being the guy who managed to lose to Joe “Where am I?” Biden to the guy with the best (so far only?) chance of beating him in 2024.

The man NEEDS adoration.

(Did many news networks cover his speech? I admit, I didn’t even bother to look or see what he had said)

Of course they did (but few carried most or even parts of it live), try an internet search for “Trump’s announcement speech”. Many are now ‘fact checking’ it.

The risk of Trump Burnout seems to be getting higher and higher.
The rabid fan base appears to be getting smaller.

Time will tell.
Oh, I fully agree.

But HIS ego needs the attention. And he may think that declaring another campaign might bring some back into the fold that have walked away.

Let’s hope it isn’t true.

Yeah, I’m going to need to finish a cup of coffee before I do that. Not ready to yell at the computer just yet 😂
