I'm still grappling with the notion that Congress, the entity in the Constitution whose first enumerated power is to lay and collect taxes, is some irrelevant third party entity whose interest in tax collection is unclear. Stunning.

i understand that

i also know that other than the issue a number of years ago with Lois Lerner where congress asked for organizational records from conservative and liberal groups, that law hasnt been used very often, and certainly not in a partisan political way

But that looks like it is going to change now....

Politics has been partisan for many years. It has gotten worse in the last 4 or 5 years. imo

Are you that naiive to think they don't know the loopholes built in to beneift land developers and the wealthy? We know there is going to be trials in NY regarding his abuse of the tax system.

It all seems fine to harrass a hated president. That being said be careful what this does regarding the quality of candidates in the future. We have experienced a series of untalented people as president in the 21st century. This type of action is sure to insure this will continue.

To the best of my knowledge, Biden and Harris released years of their tax returns before the election. Nothing to hide there. We'll know soon enough why Trump has been hiding his. We already have a glimpse into his reasons, IE: 15 felony count tax evasion indictment out of NY State.

Basically the doj reversed the prior decision under barr.which we knew barr was doing to protect trump best he could.
