Trump Will Deploy 800 National Guard Troops Within D.C. To Combat Lawlessness - Is It Really Needed?

Is Deploying the National Guard within the District of Columbia really necessary?

  • Yes - crime is rampant in D.C., and the 800 N.G. troops are needed

  • No - the deployment is purely theatrics and authoritarianism

Results are only viewable after voting.
An hour ago, Trump announced that he is deploying 800 National Guard troops to the U.S. capital and putting Washington's police department under federal control to combat what he said was a wave of lawlessness.

"I'm deploying the National Guard to help reestablish law, order and public safety in Washington, D.C.. Our capital city has been overtaken by violent gangs and bloodthirsty criminals."

Hundreds of officers and agents from over a dozen federal agencies, including the FBI, ICE, DEA and ATF, have been mobilized within D.C. in recent days. Trump is invoking Section 740 of the DC Home Rule Act to deploy the National Guard troops.

Poll: Is deploying the 800 National Guard troops really needed, or is it just theatrics?

IMO adding the National Guard will have a beneficial effect on reducing the level and number of crimes occurring in the District of Columbia.

The fact is that they will not be doing actual policing, that remains the purview of both the DC Police and members of Federal law enforcement i.e. FBI, DEA, and whatever other Federal law enforcement agents not already assigned to assist ICE in the effort to deport illegal immigrants are available. However, they can act if they see a crime being committed to stop the crime and detain the perpetrators for arrest by law enforcement.

I think their very public stationing will have a preventitive effect. Time will tell how that works out during the 30-day period of this Presidential authority.

Yes, I understand. You believe the shit you propagate.

LOL.

You keep shooting spit-wads hoping something will stick to the wall. how many times are you going to change the topic?

Now now, dont get mad at me. When you fight as desperately hard as you did about RFK in the sewage, or Russians not being able to get water for the kids they were kidnapping (so they had to take the with them!)...you lose all credibility.

I only pointed out a few facts. Fight hard? I hardly do anything. You are not worth my time.

You and your anti-Trump colleagues still have not provided hard evidence to tie Trump to the kind of nasty sexual deeds which could get him impeached and put hm in jail.
Public opinion is overwhelming that Trump is as guilty as sin. The "hard evidence" when it comes will confirm Trump's guilt. Still however, you MAGAs will luv him if not more so. The MAGA degeneracy is profound and irreversible. Your post itself is an apologia about and for Trump. Defending Trump is the only concern of your posts. And your posts don't even mention Epstein.

EPSTEIN !

Someone should come up with a quippy mantra about Epstein.
I would if I didn't think it was a stupid story designed to target Trump for knowing Epstein and that is the extent of it.
Why don’t you tell that to the MAGA crowd?

So, you have already convicted Trump without hard evidence.
Hardly an apology for Trump.
Tell us again what Trump is actually guilty of.
Knowing Epstein?

And I'll return to my statement about the killing in Austin the other day. Any killing is a tragedy. If the NG needs to be called out because of shooting in DC, they need to be sent to Austin also. You called this a "whataboutism"....it's not, it's a natural extension of your position.

As Trump said today, he looks to extend this NG deployment permanently and throughout the country, so everyone should feel good, right?

It is a disgrace, and more so to use the sorrow of a mother to justify it.
Your Orange Man Bad demagoguery demanding the President deploy the National Guard in response to any murder or withhold support for fighting crime in the Federal district that is our national Capitol makes zero sense.

We all witnessed him trying to steal a free and fair election.

I saw a picture of them guarding the Washington Monument yesterday.

Not exactly fighting crime, but providing an image to make right-wing hearts swoon. That, I gather, is the point.

Are you aware of the problems associated with militarizing a society?

Can you explain why the MAGA crowd is so keen on what's in the so-called "Epstein files"?
Lol, the MAGA crowd isn't but the Dems are living and breathing the "EPSTEIN FILES".

The "Epstein files" have become the super worn and thin thread Dems are now desperately clinging to, for dear life, because they are (comically) convinced that somehow, somehow, somehow - the "Epstein files" will lead to "getting Trump".

Yet, anyone with even half a brain well understands the Biden administration would have jumped at the chance to harm Trump with the "Epstein files" if they possibly could have - either at all or without doing far more damage to themselves.

If you spend a few minutes watching any news media which leans left or listen to any liberal guest on Fox news, you can't go 5 minutes without a Dem saying ANYTHING Trump says or does is a "diversion from the Epstein files". It's become a game between my husband and I, to guess exactly when they'll toss that in to literally any topic being discussed - whether the discussion is about wars, the border, deportations, adding a ballroom to the White House, the meeting with Putin tomorrow, trade, crime, Texas redistricting, or ANY other topic. Every single topic leads to Trump and his supposed diversion from the "Epstein files". The "Epstein files" are currently like the Dems only and last hope.

Uniformed troops with rifles are enough to make stupid protesters do dumb things.
You don't need ammunition in them in order to terrify the mindless protesters.

The last "mindless protesters" in DC stormed the Capitol on 6 January (and Donald Trump repeatedly refused to send the National Guard). Later President Trump told all the mindless rioters that he loved them. Later, President Trump pardoned almost all the mindless rioters.

When you are on duty civilians always ask you if your weapon is loaded.

That tells us a number of things.

1. Civilians - most certainly including Donald Trump - do not understand the U.S. military and how it functions.

2. Civilians do not understand the legal limitations and safe guards that are in place to protect civilians from harm by the military. The bottom line ultimate mission of the military is to protect the Constitution and the citizens of the United States.

3. Only a relatively small number of the military have police training. Most members of the military in combat arms are NOT trained to police civilians.

4. U.S. military men and women take an oath of allegiance to defend the Constitution, not a specific person. They swear loyalty to the Constitution not to the President.

Oath of Enlistment

"I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God."

Nah, the economy will get him first.
Keep your fingers crossed Callen.

The Dow is down about 65 right now (Nasdaq is up) following the PPI release this morning, but it's still got about 900 more points to lose, just to lose the almost 1000 points it gained in the last couple days. I know you like to mention down market days but not a thing about the market from you during strings of days when highs after highs are reached. ;)

Yes, I know, I know. You'll point out the stock market is not the "economy" but you sure seem to think they are related when you often talk about the futures and how you think the market will respond to economic news.

Here are a couple of your funny comments heading into the last two days, when the Dow went up nearly 1000 points. The first one was because you were all spun up about Antoni.

Wonder how the markets will react?

Bankruptcies are up, layoffs are up, jobs are down and CEO's are pointing to tariffs and economic uncertainty cause by a lack of clarity of WH economic policy as the reason. The firing of the head of the BLS and the constant threats against the Fed just adds to the uncertainty. Why is is so hard to look at all the facts and recognize that these ideas of Trump's may not be working out so well? I can't figure out whether it is an emotional need to defend and protect Trump or an equally emotional need to never agree with anyone on the left. If this was Biden the right would be claiming the economic sky was falling and that's the truth.

SO basically you are forecasting gloom and doom before the crime fighting effort gains traction in D.C.
I wonder if you would be as pessimistic if it were Queen Kamala seeking the same results as Trump.
Actually, a Democrat president would probably think things are fine in D.C. given all of the great news about crime going down in that troubled city.

Anti-Trumpers will always forecast gloom and doom for the country and the economy. What else can they do? If they're not waiting for the sky to fall then they feel they are not "fighting, fighting, fighting".
GIVE US MORE TIK TOK VIDEOS OF POLITICIANS YELLING
"FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!"

Your Orange Man Bad demagoguery demanding the President deploy the National Guard in response to any murder or withhold support for fighting crime in the Federal district that is our national Capitol makes zero sense.
Of course the statement would have to be able to penetrate cement in order to do so

SO basically you are forecasting gloom and doom before the crime fighting effort gains traction in D.C.

Gloom and doom? Not according to the mayor of DC. Not according to statistics, which Donald Trump cannot and will not understand nor accept. Trump as you well know is not a person who has a close relationship with truth or honor.

Define crime fighting efforts. At this point in time since the National Guard have been deployed to DC how many criminals have been arrested by the National Guard?

How much crime fighting are the National Guard actually doing?

Surely, Trump is making certain that the results are measurable and he will faithfully and fully share those rare and unaltered statistics with the American people, especially the citizens of DC.

I wonder if you would be as pessimistic if it were Queen Kamala seeking the same results as Trump.

Kamala Harris understands the law, the Constitution, and their application. Unlike your man Trump she actually holds an advanced degree AND she apparently paid attention in class. I am most confident in saying that Harris would not have deployed the National Guard to DC under blatantly false pretenses, as Trump has done. And will extend and will repeat in other locations and for broadening reasons. It is what authoritarians do.

I think the reason the Dems are keeping the story going is to force republicans hands on the subpoenas etc when the House resumes. If the GOP doesn't go after them or the WH refuses it will get the Trump base all riled up again.

Should you be able to walk the streets of our nation's capitol at night without fear? Should the streets be clean and grafitti free?

Should that be the case in every American city?
I have visited DC a few times, alone, back in the 1980's when the crime rate was much higher there than it is now. I even walked the streets after dark to go to various events and been there with my husband on other occasions. Not once did I ever feel unsafe. But, then, I wasn't out at 3 a.m. in areas where crimes might be more prevalent like Big Balls (what a disgusting name/almost-man/person) and not a big fan of the president, whoever it was at the time, so it would not have made the news and subsequent ridiculous self-serving response from the president as what is happening now.
