Trump Will Deploy 800 National Guard Troops Within D.C. To Combat Lawlessness - Is It Really Needed?

Is Deploying the National Guard within the District of Columbia really necessary?

  • Yes - crime is rampant in D.C., and the 800 N.G. troops are needed

  • No - the deployment is purely theatrics and authoritarianism

An hour ago, Trump announced that he is deploying 800 National Guard troops to the U.S. capital and putting Washington's police department under federal control to combat what he said was a wave of lawlessness.

"I'm deploying the National Guard to help reestablish law, order and public safety in Washington, D.C.. Our capital city has been overtaken by violent gangs and bloodthirsty criminals."

Hundreds of officers and agents from over a dozen federal agencies, including the FBI, ICE, DEA and ATF, have been mobilized within D.C. in recent days. Trump is invoking Section 740 of the DC Home Rule Act to deploy the National Guard troops.

Poll: Is deploying the 800 National Guard troops really needed, or is it just theatrics?

Trump himself is that lawlessness. He needs to be under federal control at ADX Florence.

Just being an authoritarian scumbag piece of shit who likes to bully. May karma find the asshole.

It's not even remotely necessary. DC doesn't even hit the top 20 of most violent cities in the US. But of course, Trump and his goons are well aware of that; nothing they ever do is in good-faith.

Anything and everything to further distract from the Epstein fiasco, eh?

I wonder if those troops will be going after pedophiles.

The top five homicide rates among large population centers — those with more than a million residents — were the cities of:

  1. Memphis, Tennessee (Shelby County)
  2. St. Louis, Missouri (St. Louis city)
  3. Baltimore, Maryland (Baltimore city)
  4. Washington, DC, (District of Columbia, DC)
  5. Birmingham, Alabama (Jefferson County).

Now I guess arguments can be made other cities are worse ... but the Capitol of the USA shouldn't be crime infested

we should all agree on that, right ?

You really think what Trump is doing will matter?

Most murders are black on black and society doesn't care about them.

The National Guard and Trump's control of the police aren't going to make a difference.

No more kid glove treatment from the local cops. The real boyz are now on it.

NOt sure what you mean. Trump has pardoned these hoodlums, vandals, and criminals beating up police officers and destroying federal property. Where are the big boyz there?

Heck we have a dangerous 34-count convicted felon and rapist running our country. I want to see some big boys remedying that problem. That seems like a far bigger problem than just some homeless people under a bridge.

So you are saying he should start in Memphis.
Again, calling out the National Guard is not a good solution, assuming this is the problem you want to tackle.
But our reality TV p o t u s POS doesn't want to solve anything.
He wants fake coverage to distract from his association with his sex trafficker buddy.

The Capitol of the USA also shouldn’t have the massive poverty rates that lead to that crime.

DC is the capital of the country, not the capitol.

None of the five cities you hi lighted have a population of over 1million.

Should you be able to walk the streets of our nation's capitol at night without fear? Should the streets be clean and grafitti free?

Should that be the case in every American city?
