Trump threatens Apple with a 25% tariff if it doesn’t build iPhones in America

Tens of MILLIONS of middle income jobs lost due to AMERICAN companies sending those jobs overseas
What sectors were those jobs in ? Please be specific.

And how can it be legal? How can you justify using "emergency powers" against a homegrown company like Apple?
That's a good point, what reality are the two even closely related. It's an insane amount of creep of power that doesn't make any sense when scrutinized

RE Tariffs...our economy has not been crippled...but its most certainly ****ed up. Trump didnt cause that. Its ****ing insane for people to look at 4 decades of failed economic and foreign trade polices and then shit themselves and scream about the person trying to at least stimulate conversation and action on it. And he HAS gotten both action and conversation. World leaders are TALKING. They are actually entering into new arrangements.

They have thrown hundred of thousands out of work and wrecked global trade in a few months.

We have seriously and permanently damaged our economy, for policy you admit you don't know will work?

To open negotiations? That makes sense to you?

And we were NOT able to negotiate with individual countries about specific products or industries, we had to go ham on the entire world at the same time?

This is no different than the border. People just mindless ram their heads in the sand about all the problems and ACCEPT it. Trump fixed the boirder disaster the rat party caused in a ****ign MONTH. No new laws. And BTW...all those refugees that HAD to escape their shithole countires...they arent beuing mass slaughtered and devasted. They whol asylum bullshit was just an excuse to circumvent our laws...and trhe rats in this country made that happen. Same with the trade polices. They have been ignored for decades, even though EVERYONE said 'something must be done!!!

Stay on topic, Red 5!

Is Trumps action going to work? I dont know...but I know they will be far more successful if the rat shitheads in Congress actually JOINED the effort...not shit themselves because...welll....you know why.

TTTTRRRRRRUUUUUUMMMMMMMMPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's not going to work, your enforced ignorance is not changing those odds. The notion that Democrats are obliged somehow to get on board with Trump is just dumb.

If his economic plan was worth a ****, it would be convincing on it's own merits.

You do know that the Trump budget bill will INCREASE the long-term debt, right.?

This is my biggest frustration.

You can't raise the debt limit as your first move and then say, with any semblance of a straight face, that what you are doing is trying to control the deficit.

Yet here we are.

The idea of putting tariffs on a specific domestic company is insane. What a joke the Republican party is. Zero answers for the nations actual problems.
That's because they don't live in reality and what they percieve as problems are not what are actual problems.

He hasn't answered my question (twice) as to whether he's a socialist so I'm going to assume he's a full fledged communist. That would explain why he doesn't understand the role of a private corporation in a capitalist system.
Anyone defending Trump isn't a socialist or a communist lol. You don't defend a staunch capitalist piece of shit while being a communist or socialist and are actually an anti-captitalist and not just an authoritarian lover.

That's because they don't live in reality and what they percieve as problems are not what are actual problems.

Exactly. Their disconnection from reality makes them functionally insane.

It is the unrelenting untruths from Trump reinforced by Fox. They have lost the ability to think independently. They have an emotional need to belive Trump because if not.....what did they do?

This could be a game.

They have an emotional need to believe Trump because if not . . . understanding economics is actually important.

Because if not . . . education is actually important.

Because if not . . . their gut was wrong again.

Because if not . . . they've supported moronic economic policies that are hurting the country.

Because if not . . . they're wrong, and it stings, ouch, it stings.

Because if not . . . libs are right.

Because if not . . . what are they going to do with their afternoons and evenings, now that they've understood that Fox has been rope-a-doping them for decades?

Trump could announce today that Martians walk among us, dressed as humans, and that the only way to get rid of them all is to kill all of the natural redheads--red hair from the red planet--and Trump supporters would be obligated to believe it. There's little that they would not believe. The massive social and life costs of calling bullshit on Trump would mean the effective end of most of their social relationships, most of their TV viewing, and most of their hobbies.

And on top of being social outcasts, they'd still be stupid people. Dumb and alone doesn't work for them, so let's hunt some redheaded Martians.

Apple lost abot 100 billion in market cap today because of the announcement. Of course, they're worth about 3 T so nbd. They've been trying to move manufacturing to places like India and vietnam. I think this will accelerate that effort. Its not realistic to build them in the US. They're already to expensive.

Good news!

Not only Apple, but any cell phone manufacturer: build here or pay us more taxes!

We all love central planning on our economy, amirite?

And if iPhones have a 25% price increase and all the other phone makers have the same tariffs, Apple isn’t really hurt, just the consumers.

Imagine if DJT campaigned on making cell phones more expensive?

ah, they can "find a way" to do it? all they are lacking is motivation? wow, you must be a business "genius". Run, don't walk, and motivate them! show them the way! those slackers!
Sarcasm only makes you appear stressed. 😁

Hey America - have you considered gummies?

So every American is now going to pay 25% more for an already expensive bit of kit.

Winning.

People, such as Trump, who don't understand the economics of international trade fall for the above fallacy.
Trump understands more about international trade then you ever will.
1) I'd rather have our children working at more advanced jobs than low-paid work screwing iPhones together,
There are all levels of jobs in the US. Not all children will go on to graduate from MIT.
2) Samsung doesn't make phones in the U.S. either. Why target Apple only?
But then Samsung is not headquartered in the US, are they?
As I said in my previous post, there is a reason why we all don't quit our jobs and grow all our food, sew all our clothes and build our own homes. We hire others that do it cheaper and better. That's more efficient. Companies discovered that too. There is a reason why an American car has 40% foreign content and foreign cars have 40% American content.
You clearly think all manufacturing jobs, farming and construction jobs should be farmed out to peasants in third world nations or illegal immigrants for slave wages. If left up to you, the US would not have a manufacturing base.

So you are cheering on purposely hurting an American company and giving them incentive to move elsewhere. US workers will never work for low enough wages to allow Apple to manufacture domestically and still sell an already very expensive,
You are selling Apple short.

Ahem, Trump thinks that exporting countries pay for tariffs. He’s an economic imbecile and proves it daily.
The U.S. manufactures high end finished goods. It’s no problem exporting t-shirt making to the third world.
Please take an introductory course in economics and learn about comparative advantage.

He’s not common of small criminality. Most of which is a done by people stealing small and are acts of desperation. People who want/need to feed addictions. People hungry enough to do things they know are wrong.

On the surface they may justify their acts but the core principles, their knowledge of right vs wrong, they know they are wrong.

That doesn’t excuse it. I’m simply a professional speaking to the business of understanding those I’d arrest for breaking the law. Understanding motive.

Folks like Trump and Madoff are different. Folks who steal large are frequently pathological. They’re thinking “alternative”. They have justified their theft by various means. Don’t acknowledge the wrongs they are committing are wring. Think their unethical behavior is valid. Their core understanding of right vs wrong is different than mentally healthy, ethical, thinkers. It’s literally pathological.

BTW, any truly wealthy person who literally believes they are “different” because of their wealth than others, and the law therefore doesn’t apply to them in the same way it applies to everyone else, is suffering from some aspect of this kind of pathological thinking.

That frequently they get away with it and it deepens and validates their thinking doesn’t negate the statement I just made above. That it is an unethical, and potentially pathological (depends on how deep they take it) - if it truly has changed their understanding of right vs. wrong), world view.
Put simply, they have become entitled.

:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

What is his experience in international trade?

There are all levels of jobs in the US. Not all children will go on to graduate from MIT.
Sure, but that's not the issue.

But then Samsung is not headquartered in the US, are they?
They're not, but that doesn't stop a president from getting a company doing business here from investing in manufacturing here.

You clearly think all manufacturing jobs, farming and construction jobs should be farmed out to peasants in third world nations or illegal immigrants for slave wages. If left up to you, the US would not have a manufacturing base.
It's less that, and more about the costs of labor in relation to products for mass consumption. In much of the industrialized world, automation is applied to help reduce costs.
