I believe that is correct and I have been saying that for some time. Trump wants the revenue that a 10% tariff on all goods will provide. He needs to offset making the current tax rates that expire, permanent.

That revenue is of course an additional tax on Americans.

So he wants to tax everyone an extra 10% so he can give rich folks a break.

I will agree with that last part Ive never been a big fan of his tariff ideas though I do understand what I think he is trying to achieve. But that is not going to cause me to rethink my vote in 2024. Not by a mile.

Maybe you havent been paying attention, but the federal government is spending about $2 trillion more each year than it brings in. And since you libs oppose so much as a penny of cuts anywhere, that means revenue has to be increased.

The trade deal with UK isn't actually a deal, and tariffs will still be stuck at 10% for most things despite the U.S. having a trade surplus with the UK.

So far more than a month after "liberation" day we appear not to have any deals, we are stuck with huge tariffs, we are experiencing negative GDP growth, far fewer ships are arriving in our ports.

This is going to be an economic disaster and everyone around Trump is just letting it happen.

Our economy is not strong. I am not predicting the future. We are already in a severe recession. And trade talks are making slow progress. It will take years to conclude all these trade agreements. I think we are in our second quarter of negative gdp growth, and it will stay that way no matter what Trump does this quarter. If he eliminated all tariffs tomorrow our economy still wouldn't recover in time. I also think it's likely Trump's incompetently implemented tariff policy will continue to be a drag on the economy. There is a lot of both hard and soft data, but most of it is soft data, and anecdotes. To help you get started check out data from the Bureau of Economic Analysis for GDP, the Bureau of Labor Statistics for employment figures, the Federal Reserve for industrial production and yield-curve data, the Conference Board for consumer confidence and the Leading Economic Index, the Institute for Supply Management for the Manufacturing PMI, S&P Global for the Composite PMI, and the National Federation of Independent Business for small-business sentiment.

Also, just look around, I don't know what you do, and I don't really care, but how are things going in your city, what about your neighbors, what are they saying? Your colleagues, etc. Everyone in my life tells me it is beginning to impact them.
