Trump Says U.S. Aircraft Carrier Design Is ‘Wrong,’ Plans Overhaul

The electronic catapult is a better design and a lot safer to operate. The problem is they were designed underpowered and are not performing correctly. You can't use the elevator and cat system at the same time reliably and the electronic syatem sometimes doesn't power the cat enough for a safe launch.. I am speaking from first hand knowledge I work at the shipyard it was built at. The Kennedy that is currently being built has had some redesign work to try and fix the problems the Ford has. In order to put a steam system in the next carrier a lot of redesigns need to happen. There is no way to put a steam syatem in the Ford or Kennedy without basically cutting boat apart and rebuilding most of the power plant system from the ground up.

Given the information posted above about the difficulties with the electric catapults and the long delivery delays it caused it sound to me like Trump knew what he was talking about. I'll leave deciding who is making the moronic statements to the interested reader. :lol:

So, he's speaking on a ship with NO catapults at all; how does he know about the controversy about electric vs steam catapults if he wasn't briefed on it? I dgaf about Tillerson.

he said very explicitly how he knows about the two systems. You should read all of the links that were posted on the first page so that you quit asking questions that have already been answered with the tiniest bit of due diligence.

We already know that DJT knows more about ISIS than the generals. Now we know he knows more about aircraft carriers than the admirals.

I admit, I don't know which is better, steam or electric catapults, but I sure do know that Ensign Bone-spurs doesn't either. Deciding to switch designs based upon the cheers of a crowd is just plain stupid to the third power.

If there aren't any catapults on that ship don't you think then that it would seem to be a pretty odd place to poll for an opinion on them?
