Trump Says He'll Host G7 Summit at His Own Miami Resort

In a news conference this afternoon, Donald Trump's chief of staff, Mick Mulvaney, announced to the media that the president will host the 2020 G7 Summit — a meeting in which leaders of the seven largest economies on the planet meet to discuss world issues — at Trump National Doral Miami, which the president owns (and profits from).

Rumors had swirled for months that he was planning to host the G7 at one of his properties. In August, Trump himself said he was considering hosting the summit at his Doral golf resort — a prospect critics promptly deemed one of the most transparently corrupt and self-interested stunts the president could pull while in office.
2020 G7 Summit Coming to Trump National Doral Miami Resort | Miami New Times

No conflict of interest or violation of the Emoluments Clause here folks, move along ....

Of course he did. :2no4:

So kind of Trump to book his own resort during the slow season. Weather in Florida in summer is dreadful. Everyone just stay inside and enjoy the air conditioning.

Trump is literally G7 Host Hitler!!!!

:2mad:

He is putting each country up in their own private .... gas chambers but he calls them villas.

For the rest of us who live in reality, The advance team made the decision for several reasons. We will save millions of dollars because everything is going to be done at cost.

How is providing his own property at cost a violation of the emoluments clause?

Does providing it at cost negate the ability for any other locations to make a bid?
Does providing it at cost lead to any tax breaks?

Why does he go out of his way to look bad if there is no advantage?

If you look at the location it makes perfect sense to have a G7 Summit there. First off it is just 8 minutes from the Miami International Airport. And once the world leaders arrive with their entourage at the Doral, there is no reason for them to have to travel anywhere else because it can accommodate all venues. That alone helps with the headache of security. From the airport to the Doral it is down 41 make a right and on the left is the resort.

Each foreign leader will have his/her own villa. The accommodations include top notch golf courses, a huge full service spa and salon, gorgeous ballroom for formal events, executive meeting rooms, beautiful pools, tennis courts, workout rooms, multiple places to dine including of course in-room dining.

There is plenty of room for all the press. The First Lady can coordinate activities for the other first ladies of things they are passionate about. Everything can be accomplished at the same location. They all check in and have no need to travel anywhere else until it is time to leave for the airport.

How many times have you used that meme now? A few dozen? I guess when its all you got, its all you got
You exaggerate. I’ve only used it a few times, when it was appropriate. And it’s not all I got, it’s all you’re worth. ;)
best you take daily for rest of your life
he he .... You should check with that company to find out if they make anti-asshole suppositories too, and then test a whole case of them.

You ever been to south Florida in June? And then there is this little detail.....

In other words, it's just a coincidence that the G7 meeting will be held at a Trump property.

Trump isn't making any money on this. He will lose money. I would guestimate that for at least a week or so, the resort will not be taking any bookings, golf tournaments, reservations etc. preparing for the Summit, during the Summit. He is not charging the taxpayers for the use of his property which cuts the cost to host such an event in half saving the taxpayers millions.

Yeah, Trump’s a real saint. :lamo

Have you ever heard of air conditioning? The morning hours are nice and so are the evening hours. But even in the afternoon South Florida’s easy sea breeze is a fresh afternoon lift on stale summer days. However, thG-7 are in meetings most of the afternoon. Your link shows just how much of a sacrifice Trump Inc. has made since he announced running for president. And let's not forget Trump has given back every penny he earned as president to institutions in our government that assist those in need. His sons now running the business have also stopped pursuing any real estate opportunities overseas since their father became president.

Emoluments violations don't get much more clear cut than this.

We are fortunate to have a President as affluent as Trump.Had Obama hosted the event it would have been at Motel 6 or huts set up at Camp David.

Really? It's almost like you are on the payroll. Ever play a little tennis in Florida in June?

It is the down season. He's not getting any booking anyway.
If you are concerned with his saving taxpayer money, it seems you might suggest that Camp David, already paid for by taxpayers, and used before for such summits, might be a good choice.

Stop it now. You are going to scare them with all that common sense.

Emolument's clause violation?
The Trump Organization isn't profiting. Oh, it's that common sense thing again, right? Mulvaney made that clear.

Yet another tempest in a teapot of fauxrage 'Orange Man Bad!'
(Even if such arrangements are specifically NOT a Emolument's clause violation and are based in common sense and practicality)

I seem to recall something similar with Pence while in Ireland, was it? Same thing, once again.

I guess practicality, security and no Emolument's clause violation simply escapes some. Oh well. Moving on.

Fair. Camp David has hosted 'G' summits before.

I'd be interested in hearing why this venue wasn't selected, as surely, there's some good reasons for it.

If you have followed G-7 and prior G-8 in foreign countries they provide them with accommodations but then all events are at other locations. It is a security nightmare and really hinders residence in these areas over such events. The schedule is rigid due to transporting everyone to each location. Throw in bad weather and you have even less time to accomplish what these leaders want to.

Quite frankly providing these world leaders with accommodations where the minute they get off the plane after a long flight, 8 minutes travel to the destination where they do not have to travel anymore for the next three or so days, it allows more time for significant meetings. Their entire entourage will be all within doors away from each other. The leader's suites are quite elegant complete with conference areas, and very comfortable living quarters. After a day of meetings they can walk out the door and play golf on some of the most excellent courses in the world or play tennis on exquisite courts or go enjoy the beautiful pools for an evening swim or just walk around enjoying the gardens on the property.

Something tells me the G-7 learning it will be at the Doral are looking forward to it.

All fair, and I'd like to learn how Camp David, which has hosted 'G' summits before, stacks up against Doral venue in these regards.

Might be. Might not be. Dunno. Kinda keeping an open mind to both sides of this, not having formulated an opinion as of yet. Would like more information, actually.

But suffice it to say that it's not a emoluments clause issue, clearly, as there's no profit being made.

Is there some secret requirement that flights must land at Miami? It seems to me that across this wide country, there are plenty of sites, not owned by the President, within easy commute from the airport.

You think this will be done at cost?!!?

This particular facility is I financial trouble, this is trump trying to bail out another of his failures...
