This is a great idea.
From the other thread on this:
Where is the money coming from? He's backing away from providing federal funds. Look how crass and cavalier he and Noem are, re: people's lives, homes, and livelihoods:
President Donald Trump said Tuesday that he plans to phase out the Federal Emergency Management Agency after this year’s hurricane season, offering the clearest timeline yet for his administration’s long-term plans to dismantle the disaster relief agency and shift responsibility for response and recovery onto states.“We want to wean off of FEMA, and we want to bring it down to the state level,” Trump told reporters during a briefing in the Oval Office, later saying, “A governor should be able to handle it, and frankly, if they can’t handle it, the aftermath, then maybe they shouldn’t be governor.”Trump added that the federal government will start distributing less federal aid for disaster recovery and that the funding will come directly from the president’s office. For months, Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, whose department oversees FEMA, have vowed to eliminate the agency, repeatedly criticizing it as ineffective and unnecessary. Noem reiterated those plans Tuesday in the Oval Office, saying FEMA “fundamentally needs to go away as it exists.” link
See the red text? He wants to pick and choose what states, what regions, what voting districts, etc get federal $$ assistance when lives and homes are on the line. Do you think this is appropriate? Do you think he'll be punitive?
FEMA is not a bank, it's a distribution network and infrastructure. It's about how to get emergency CREWS and equipment to people fast. The $$ for individuals comes later, for rebuilding but the $$ for emergency response needs to be there immediately. States dont necessarily have those resources, FEMA is a centralized unit that can make those things available as needed, even reused. Do you see the value in this? Please explain how this is an unnecessary burden on the national debt? Arent living persons and open businesses and drivable roads and bridges better for the economy?
Intellectually dishonest post. Trump's plans are to phase out FEMA, not phase out aid. FEMA has performed very poorly. As the victims of the hurricane in North Carolina. After FEMA is phased out, rather than DC bureaucrats dispersing aid, the money will go directly to the affected states and state and local governments will disperse it.Trump says he plans to phase out FEMA after 2025 hurricane season

Hear that all you Southern states that are prone to hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, etc.? You’re on your own.
Needless to say this is absurd. We have a Federal Emergency Management Agency because many natural disasters are too big for any state to handle, so we move federal resources around to mitigate harm of those affected.
Can anyone imagine a poor state like Mississippi trying to deal with a hurricane on their own?
Let me quote the article and emphasize the relevant portions.Intellectually dishonest post. Trump's plans are to phase out FEMA, not phase out aid. FEMA has performed very poorly. Tell us that you don’t know that a governor has to request FEMAs assistance without telling us.States Rights are important
Its funny how liberals want the Fed Govt to be involved (a hurricane) and then NOT want them to be involved (riots/looting in LA)
Which is it ?
I imagine FEMA will not go away, I don't think Trump can disassemble that
FEMA is the central planning organization that coordinates interstate aid and contracts and makes sure people get paid and contracts are in place ahead of time.Intellectually dishonest post. Donald Trump isn't that much for state rights when it comes to California. LinkStates Rights are important

They should be.States Rights are important
Easy. This is how our system is set up.Its funny how liberals want the Fed Govt to be involved (a hurricane) and then NOT want them to be involved (riots/looting in LA)

He's managed to damage of lot of our government that he should not have been able to.I imagine FEMA will not go away, I don't think Trump can disassemble that

I'm pretty sure he's just trolling for attention. So you tell me FEMA performed poorly. In what instances and when? How do you know where the performance was performed poorly?

You think those linemen from across the country just show up out of goodwill?
Man, this is going to be really funny to watch when Florida takes a hurricane in the face and no one shows up to turn the power back on because Dementia Donnie dismantled FEMA and none of the other states are willing to go in and do work because there’s no guarantee they’re going to get paid.
“Death camps”?If the Republicans use FEMA for their death camps some Republicans might remember their projections about FEMA. So they will come up with a new name.
Under this type of plan who in the federal govt. will ensure the States are distributing and using the funds as intended?
“Death camps”?
Yet another failure on their part.An old conspiracy theory.
You think this is about sTaTeS rIgHtS lmao, lemme tell you something, disaster-prone red states don't actually want this. They can't handle the responses on their own.
GOP Senator Begs for Disaster Aid as FEMA Snubs Another Red State
Sen. Josh Hawley begged Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to help approve FEMA aid for Missouri, after deadly tornadoes struck the state.www.rollingstone.com
So your argument is that red states turn a profit on natural disasters?I imagine they do want to continue getting hundreds of millions - its a cash cow for sure
