Trump says he plans to phase out FEMA after 2025 hurricane season

Hey @stealthycat, how much of Donnie telling you to go **** yourself will it take for you to realize he wants you to go **** yourself?

Or will you worship him even after a tornado tears through your home and you can't blame Biden for the lack of disaster reponse?

why would I blame the US Fed Govt for a tornado ? or a flood ? or a hurricane ?

weird

Like every other agency/org he & his pill-popping fool Mush have hacked up (or tried) or shut down completely (or tried), he doesn't fully understand all that they do. All he cares about is putting another √ on his Project 2025 chart and damn the consequences.
This all begs the obvious question, of course.

If the government doesn't exist to provide responses to natural disasters, etc, then why bother with it?

The question is, which government? The Federal government is supposed to be the last resort and too many state and local governments are abusing it as their first and only resort. The Federal government is for the big picture, i.e. issues on a national scale, not for every piece of local minutia.

So your argument is that red states turn a profit on natural disasters?

hurricane Beryl, FEMA provided almost a billion dollars ....... where do you think that money went? to rebuild of course but the injection of a billion into communities is a lot of frickin money and don't think that kind of money isn't needed/wanted

not apples to apples but Arkansas and other states get a lot of money for feral hogs, did you know ?

guess what .... in every state that gets money to eliminate hogs, there are more hogs now than ever. Aint that something? think about it .... if Arkansas eliminated all its feral hogs, that $$$$$$$$$4 would quit coming in ..... that's money that's funding a lot of things

I see. So the solution to instances of fraud is to remove the entire emergency management system?

Okay, I'm game. I never liked the Southeast anyway. Nothing of value is at stake.

Under this type of plan who in the federal govt. will ensure the States are distributing and using the funds as intended?
I'd assume Trump will give out aid to the nice states and none to the naughty states. He doesn't actually need to know where the disasters hit.

I doubt he can get it done

I actually wouldn't remove it - get states more involved though sure, it IS their communities/people

Sad face.

I don't feel like subsidizing Florida's piss-poor planning anymore. I don't care if the Carolinas wash out into the ocean. Texas and Louisiana mean less than nothing to me. I don't want my tax dollars reinforcing their failure.

He's not doing it this upcoming hurricane season because FEMA will be needed.

Next season the states are on their own.

And next year, hurricane and tornado states are on their own too.

With homelessness rates going absolutely through the roof there because so many of those states just can't afford to rebuild on their own.

They have a long way to go before they catch up to California on homelessness.

Wow. Holland has been reclaiming land from the sea for centuries. The U.S. meekly cedes everything to the waters, emits greenhouse gases to raise the waters more, pumps oil out from beneath the land to sink it, and builds bad levee projects that prevent sediment from restoring land. But this is not enough! We need to abandon the chancy terrain to its fate whenever a storm hits, in hope of losing even more. I am so .... impressed.

Who needs FEMA when you've got a sharpie!!

Trump says he plans to phase out FEMA after 2025 hurricane season

CNN —
President Donald Trump said Tuesday that he plans to phase out the Federal Emergency Management Agency after this year’s hurricane season, offering the clearest timeline yet for his administration’s long-term plans to dismantle the disaster relief agencyand shift responsibility for response and recovery onto states.

“We want to wean off of FEMA, and we want to bring it down to the state level,” Trump told reporters during a briefing in the Oval Office, later saying, “A governor should be able to handle it, and frankly, if they can’t handle it, the aftermath, then maybe they shouldn’t be governor.”

Hear that all you Southern states that are prone to hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, etc.? You’re on your own.

Needless to say this is absurd. We have a Federal Emergency Management Agency because many natural disasters are too big for any state to handle, so we move federal resources around to mitigate harm of those affected.

Can anyone imagine a poor state like Mississippi trying to deal with a hurricane on their own?
My step mom worked with FEMA. She aint going to be happy.

We’re going to have to let trump voters deal with the consequences on their own.

They have a long way to go before they catch up to California on homelessness.

Not once that very first disaster hits.

Of course, they'll all want to come here at that point, we're warm at night and all that.

To which I say...LOLZ.

Elections have consequences. Was pwning teh libs worth it, everybody? Hashtag winning

Hurricane schmurricane, we just NUKE'EM!

California is where 24% of the nation’s homeless are. So no. Not the very first disaster or even the very first 10,000 disasters. Wildfires and earthquakes. LOLZ.

And when all these red states simply can't rebuild?

Logic...LOLZ

Hey, be happy. You voted for this, correct? Still winning.

Trump wants to steal funds from our states, he is trying to dismantle the protections that provide disaster relief to the states that are legally entitled to them.

They will. Its a literal death cult run by the man closest to being satan in the entire US. People wonder why im never ever coming back to christianity. It was a farce all along.

Donald Trump doesn't know jack about disasters or FEMA. Nor does he care.
It's worse than that.

He doesn't want to fix FEMA.

He wants the federal government to fail.

And he knows he won't get blamed for it. Red state politicians may want the aid, but they won't cross Trump. Red state voters, who get hit the worst by disasters, are so blinded by partisanship that they will believe anything as long as it lets Trump off the hook.

We see this in the North Carolina response. Many of the locals are already primed to believe the worst of the federal government, and misinformation flourishes in and around disaster zones. As a result, they believe FEMA is trying to steal land, and that the government controls hurricanes. Many refused to apply for aid because of their lack of trust in the federal government.

Politico had a good article talking about all this a few weeks ago:

Oh, and let's not forget: He wants to take away the power of allocating disaster aid funds from Congress, and single-handedly dispense it. Just like a king.

Trump wants to steal funds from our states, he is trying to dismantle the protections that provide disaster relief to the states that are legally entitled to them.

Well, he needs to keep his tiny smelly little hands out of OUR coffers. If we get no FEMA, we don't pay that difference. Period.

Otherwise it literally is stealing.

I think anyone who lives below sea level along the coast is an idiot who deserves what happens to them. Of course, it doesn’t help that they elect Democrats bribed by contractors and developers to murder them with negligence.
