Trump says he ‘couldn’t care less’ if auto prices rise because of tariffs

Uh huh...

That's also false. It will lead to either better export prospects for the US or more manufacturing jobs in the US. the horror!

Yeah, sure. They will all stop trading with the largest economy in the world. Good luck!

The US already has to high a cost structure to be able to export goods.

Making raw materials and low value parts more expensive will nor help that situation. What is more likely is what happened to post ww2 UK will happen to the US. A slow decline with most domestic industries failing to maintain international competitiveness relying on just the domestic market for profit.

Or see Argentina and Brazil, that is also a strong potential for the future of the US

Haha! Sales of the Ford F series, Chevy Silverado and Tesla Model Y beg to differ.

It might be hard for Canadians to comprehend I guess when all of their top selling cars are built outside of Canada.

The model y can be brought from China, one or two of th full size pickups are made in Mexico as well as the US.

And Ford has the most recalls of any car company gm just behind them

They already do, that's the whole point. China, Europe, Canada.. they all have protectionist tariffs on imported goods.
And this improves American export prospects? I’d love it if someone could explain that one for me.

I did. I also understand that tariffs are on imports, and a country can bypass tariffs by manufacturing products in the United States that they intend to sell in the United States.

It's funny to consider that you guys gave Biden a tongue bath when he did the exact same thing with computer chip, EV and solar panel tariffs to move manufacturing to the US and promote US manufacturers.

😂😂😂

Not a single car in the US will be exempt from tariffs.

Why would that bother us if we don't put tarriffs on imports?

Uh huh, how much actual research have you done into Canadian trade? Are you talking about this?

"In the growing dispute between the U.S. and Canada over trade, U.S. President Donald Trump has singled out for particular complaint steep levies Canada has on the books for imported dairy products, calling them “anti-American farmer.”

In theory, U.S. milk, butter and cheese could face duties ranging from 200 to 300 per cent. In practice, close to 99.9 per cent of U.S. dairy exports to Canada enter the country duty-free, according to the Canadian government."

How many US goods were actually tariffed in Canada before this trade war? Are you going to address US tariffs on softwood lumber or the US subsidizing things like corn and dairy products?

Why would that bother us if we don't put tarriffs on imports?

You've abandoned an entire domestic manufacturing sector and the jobs that it brings which has forced Canada to import. That's not the win you think it is.

The industries that Canada DOES care about, cheese, dairy, etc. they slap insane protectionist tariffs on those.

You are not selling that anywhere for a 25% premium.
and Tesla Model Y beg to differ.
You're haven't heard the news?

That's fine. We have lots of choice and will gladly take a pass on an American car that costs 25% more than a Japanese, European or South Korean vehicle.

The author of that article, and you apparently, don't understand what that tariff actually does. Shocker.

Saying that 99.9% of US dairy imports are not subject to the tariff only means that the US only imports dairy products up to the Canadian imposed cap. All that means is that the Canadian protectionist tariffs on dairy is working, limiting the amount of dairy products the US can sell in Canada.

Both statements above are false, as was your claim earlier that America was only imposing retaliatory tariffs.

If you're going to just make stuff up this is a waste of time.

The topic is automobiles, not milk.

Trump promised to lower prices if elected. Now he doesn't care. Does that sound reasonable to you?

this is why it's so hard to discuss things with magats; they don't bother to research anything.

I'm afraid you are misinformed. The Auto industry is huge in Canada, especially Ontario, which is why the tarriffs are so unpopular here. Right now cars and parts flow freely across the border both way with n9 tarriffs whatsoever.

You are also wrong about dairy. There are zero tariffs on dairy coming from the States until a certain threshold is met.. To date there has been no application of those tarriffs because you have never exceeded the threshold. The main reason imports from the US are low is because we don't allow dairy that have been given hormones or antibiotics.....and that is changing.

He knows what he's saying is false. He knows that we know it.

So why is he wasting everyone's time?

You are not selling that anywhere for a 25% premium.

The US still sells cars in China even with the 25% tariff. Also most of the world markets don't have a large automotive manufacturing industry so they really don't have a choice but to allow low/no tariff imports.

You're haven't heard the news?

Yes, I realize the world's ability to cut off their nose to spite their face.

So to replace the Model Y do you suppose they are abandoning EVs all together, or are they going to buy from another US EV manufacturer... their other option is Chinese EVs if they are OK with the exploding batteries.

I notice you didn't say anything about the F-series and Silverado. 🤔

That's fine. We have lots of choice and will gladly take a pass on an American car that costs 25% more than a Japanese, European or South Korean vehicle.

LOL! If Trump putting tariffs on exports?

By the way, as of 2021, the cost of cars in Canada is already 20% higher than in the US, so....

Is the US going to stop subsiding it's dairy products? The US dumps subsidized corn into Mexico, are you going to stop that too? How much dairy products does Canada sell to the US?

And what about the softwood lumber tariffs, are you going to end those as well?

How is US the richest country in the world and every other country manages to rip them off, how does that make sense? You act like the US is poor innocent victim when it comes to trade and ignore all the times your country played dirty when it comes to trade.

Didn't he just warn auto makers not to raise prices even though there is a tariff on steel just the other day?

Who loves ya' baby, the Donald does, ask any trump voter.
Yeah, he does a lot of warning and he is told to go to hell by those warned.
