Canada very much wants to see peace in the region and an end to the war but will not sell out the Ukrainian people. Canada stands with Ukraine and is providing weapons. In fact, on a per capita basis we have given more than the US and we will join in with Europe to buy weapons from the States. Carney is in regular talks with European leaders and in fact had a lengthy call with Zelensky yesterday. Why would Putin negotiate with them when he won't with the US? The European leaders know that there is no negotiating with him. Trump has looked weak and foolish with his many phone calls and toothless threats. Putin will not end this war until he has Ukraine...never. Let's see if Trump issues those secondary sanctions or whether he sells out Ukraine.

Zelensky would be a disaster in the meeting. It's best it's Trump alone with Putin for this meeting. The chances of getting closer to an end to the war may be slim, but there is not a better person or option to facilitate that, than Trump. I would imagine Europe is watching this VERY closely as the financial burden has now shifted to them. I expect instead of complaining about Trump's efforts, they are now in full support of his efforts and largely on the same page - following Vance's weekend meetings with Europe and Ukraine. The very best thing to happen has been the full shift of the weaponry cost to Europe. Now, instead of largely sabotaging Trump's efforts to end the killing, I suspect Europe is feeling a whole new view of not wanting this war to just keep going. And hopefully (and I expect likely), Europe is expressing to Z that there will be a limit to their ability to support the financial cost of this war going on and on.
