President Trump is reportedly prepared to issue around 100 pardons and commutations on Tuesday, his final full day in office.
CNN first reported that the new batch of clemency actions will include white-collar criminals, high-profile rappers and others. It will likely include some pardons aimed at advocating for criminal justice reform, as well as controversial pardons for political allies.

Trump met Sunday with his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, daughter Ivanka Trump and other aides to review a long list of pardon requests, The Washington Post reported.

I wonder who's on the list besides his family. Remember, accepting a pardon is admitting your guilt & you can no longer hide behind the 5th Am. when deposed, indicted or tried.

I also wonder who on this list paid for the pardon? I wonder how many of the capitol rioters will get a pass?

This is beyond embarrassing. Pardoning his associates, family members, friends...how can anyone support this?

Bill Clinton pardoned 140 during his last days in office. You should review the list of those he pardoned, and then ask yourself if you were outraged and embarrassed then, assuming you're old enough to remember such things. If you aren't that old, perhaps a review of the history of such pardons is in order.

Bill clinton pardoned his friends, his associates and politicians who helped support his campaigns? He pardoned Marc Rich, which was a controversy at the time, and I also think it was a BAD idea. Incredibly wrong. He did not deserve it. However, he was not a Trump friend, delegate or associate.

Here is the list. Name ONE. like this.

Roger Clinton, btw, had ALREADY SERVED his sentence a long time before.

This "pardon for future crimes and/or possible charges" thing is just unprecedented. If Trump wants to pardon someone who already served their sentence, I guess it's fine. I don'tl ike it, but I also did not like dozens of pardons from previous presidents, but hey, whatever.

Pardoning someone as a blank pardon, for no specific crimes, is just beyond absurd.

How many of those he pardoned were not charged with any crime currently? How many had not been convicted of that crime at their time of pardon? How many were actually allies, friends, family of Clinton and had not served their time already (not that I agree with every pardon any President has done, but Trump has already racked up a few dozen that are controversial)?

Those that some are claiming Trump may be planning to pardon are not currently being accused of any specific crimes. Can you not see the difference between pardoning people for specific crimes and giving a blank pardon? Pardoning

I do honestly believe though that if he attempts certain pardons or puts them forth, he will be convicted by the Senate for the Impeachment he is currently facing. At the very, very least, it will add Republican Senators to the list of those who vote yes to his Impeachment.

Ok. That’s pretty much standard.

I read a story about Bush II and pardons yesterday.

He did almost no last day pardons, I think they said it was less than 5. When he was doing the hand off to Obama he told Obama how unfair and unjust the found the whole system. People with connections to the POTUS could get a pardon while others could not since they had no connections.

While I think he was one of the 5 worst presidents ever, he seems to have some morals at least.

Ok. That’s pretty much standard.

Standard?

So Biden pardoning Hunter day one would be fine also?

A long list of pardons at the end of a president's term is standard. Protecting your associates and friends with a blank pardon isn't.

Imagine Obama pardoning, I don't know, HILLARY CLINTON the last day of his presidency, as a blank pardon for any crimes she might have committed (and at the time republicans wanted to 'lock her up' for many 'crimes'). There would be riots.

Given that we don't know who Trump will pardon, your point at this juncture is moot.

Every president in recent history has issued what some believe were highly questionable pardons. I expect Trump to be no different in that regard. Given Trump's nature, I expect he'll issue some pardons especially to piss you off. The world will continue.

With respect, accepting a pardon is accepting a pardon. It has as little to do with guilt and innocence as an indictment from our DOJ based on contrived charges based on rigged evidence either concealed or released by our FBI.

Whether you are a minority kid in the ghetto or a Republican anywhere, you really have no rights anymore before the law as interpreted by the thugs in our legal system.

This is true, we should wait for the list. Maybe he will surprise us and not pardon any more war criminals or asshole former Marines that lie about giving money to the Wounded Warrior Foundation while using it to buy clothing for themselves

As long as Snowden isn't pardoned, I can disregard the rest. I may disagree with some others who may be pardoned, but my disagreement is inconsequential in any case. Regardless of Snowden's claimed motivations, he remains a traitor.

This thread is about the potential for him putting forth questionable pardons. It is relevant.

His pardons have already been controversial. He has a day left in office. And is still facing impeachment.

Would you be pissed off if he pardoned his children or associates? What about issuing blanket pardons to cover any "crime" that anyone he puts forth "may" have committed before today?

I agree about Snowden, but as a Marine I cannot abide a former Marine lying about giving money to the Wounded Warrior Foundation of all things.

The sun also has the potential of flaming out today. That Trump may pardon people that piss you off is far more likely, but you'll just have to live with it. You could admit that Trump's ability to pardon anyone at all is what really pisses you off, but you're likely to merely talk all around that reality than admit it.

Of course I'll have to live with it. However, such actions can still have consequences for Trump, especially given his current impeachment.

Just like Trump and his supporters will have to live with the fact that he lost this election and will leave office tomorrow.

There are quite a few who profit from things they shouldn't. I agree that of all people who do such things, including most of congress, a veteran doing such things to other veterans is particularly troubling. Hopefully, such people will not be included in Trump's list.

The entire process for pardons needs a serious overhaul.....

Trump's political fortunes, whatever they may be, have little to do with pardons. None of those he may pardon will put him back on the map for 2024 for obvious reasons.

But if somebody else the person is brought up on Fed, charges and the person who was pardoned is called into court he has to testify and does NOT have 5th Amen. protection.
I do not know if this carries over to state charges , but if it does and Trump gets charged by NY the people that know anything about these charges they have to testify and Who ever is being charged could be really screwed
Have a nice day

They can have to do with the Pardons he may make today though. As has been pointed out, Impeachment is a political process, which means several GOP Senators who are on the fence about whether to convict Trump may very well be pushed over by Trump himself to vote in favor of conviction should he should on his last day he plans to abuse the Pardon process, which is what this report is about, abuse of the pardon power of the President.

Yes, standard. President’s always issue a bunch of pardoned as they are leaving.
