Trump or DeSantis

GOP Choice

I’m a swing voter and usually ticket split. I’d consider voting for DeSantis, but never for Trump. I voted for Biden in 2020, but that was a vote against Trump, not necessarily for Biden. I just wanted Trump gone, Atilla the Hun would have done. I’m not satisfied with Biden, I expected the moderate democrat Biden was as a senator. Not the new progressive, far left Biden. Even so, I’d rather have old Joe than Trump. As for 2024, if it’s Trump vs. Biden, voting third party is a definite possibility, a vote against both as I did in 2016, voting for Johnson against both Clinton and Trump. I never considered voting third party as a wasted vote. But as an opportunity to officially register my disgust with both major party candidates.

DeSantis? He’s a very real possibility if pitted against Biden, Harris also. The question is could DeSantis overcome the plurality of Trump MAGA Republicans in their primaries in a crowded field? Today, I don’t think so. But a one on one contest between Trump and DeSantis, DeSantis very well could. Here’s something to ponder on.

DeSantis and Haley both would have to switch over some of the MAGAs to win in the general election. I think Trump will lose to DeSantis in the primaries and possibly choose Haley as a VP running mate.

DeSantis is going to have win over Independents too and unless he dumps his culture war BS soon that might he tougher than some may think.

Let me make sure I understand what you are saying. Are you saying you think DeSantis will be the GOP nominee and choose Haley as his running mate?
That would certainly be a good ticket and one I'd like to see go up against Biden and Dem VP.

It is easier for Biden to just sit back and let the crazy man (Trump) speak. It's harder to do that for DeSantis because he actually doesn't sound nearly as crazy as Trump -all the time.-
DeSantis said and done some pretty crazy things lately..

DeSantis, Once A Breath of Fresh Air, Now on Levels with Trump

Polls recently showed DeSantis with big leads over Donald Trump in a potential GOP presidential match up as his ultra-conservative moves garner attention. But many think a pivot back to his more moderate ways would be hard to do.

On Tuesday, DeSantis asked the Supreme Court to establish a grand jury to investigate “wrongdoing” involving COVID vaccines. That capped off a year during which he punished Disney for its CEO criticizing the so-called “don’t say gay” bill, rounded up Venezuelan migrants in Texas and flew them to an island in Massachusetts, and stripped the Tampa-area state attorney of his powers.
In fact, DeSantis appears to be pushing an even more conservative agenda that’s aimed at base voters for Trump, whose “Operation Warp Speed” accelerated the development and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines.

Brian Ballard, a lobbyist and former Trump adviser, agreed that DeSantis was no moderate.

“What the national media might miss is that Ron DeSantis is an authentic conservative,” Ballard said. “It’s not learned, it’s not something where he looks at the polls to see what a conservative does or believes. … Anyone who says Ron DeSantis is a moderate doesn’t understand him, probably has never met him, certainly, or spent time studying him.”

DeSantis’ ultra-conservative agenda could help him win the Republican primary for president, just as it did for Trump in 2016, but DeSantis would then face the dilemma of whether to move back to the middle for the general election, one analyst said.

I would never vote for any Republican presidential candidate 2024.

But I do hope the Dems find a younger and more dynamic candidate. (not Kamala either)

Both Trump and DeSantis will lose the middle over their woke nonsense and abortion rights.

If he's smart, he'll run more toward the middle on some of the more controversial topics. As much as Fox News bleats on and on about immigration, it's not a winning issue for the GOP. Reducing the cartel's power and influence from flooding the US with fentanyl is a better bet.

LOL Desantis is trying to out trump Trump and is even more of a reactionary Conservative than he is. You are assuming that the national vote is turning far right and that is just not true. Desantis is out of step with the average American.

That is going to be tough for DeSantis to do. It is not in his nature to compromise his far right ideology and he hates it when anyone questions anything he says or does. I am not even sure he is going to run. He is so comfortable here in Florida with his rubber stamp legislature and handlers that make sure no one gets to ask him any tough questions that might set him off. He has a very short fuse that is going to be a huge problem for him as a national candidate.

He wants to win more than stand for his principles or he wouldn't be a successful politician. ;)

His strongman personality has made him invincible here in Florida for a number of reasons but I do not see that translating onto the national scene. When he is just another candidate in the heap and is forced to answer tough questions about his actions he will fly apart. You will see that if he actually ever announces.

He's definitely got the retirees and rednecks dialed in here. But they also make up a big portion of the Republican voters.
I didn't think Trump had a chance the first time he announced. People are shockingly dumb.

Yes they are! However, facts are he needs way more than Repuublicans to win. FL and OH aside, they are a shrinking number of the electorate in the big electoral States.

Trump is a demagogue and that is the basis for his support. DeSantis is not that. He does not have the personality of a demagogue. He will fold like a cheap tent on the national scene IMO.

He actually has the personality of a rock! My sense is his tough guy, bully routine works well when he has a legislature to do his bidding but he collapses like the coward he is when it's one on one.

Personally..................I hope Trump strokes out from a errant golf ball before he gets his campaign up and going. It may be a asshole thing to say, but I have hated the POS since the 1980's.

DeSantis.........................nope!

Nikki or Rubio.......... a definite yep.

A stale piece of bread would beat Joe Biden.

No one with a brain will vote for for that senile dumbass again
Man, you really got your finger on the pulse of America... ;)
Sarcasm alert...

there wasn't election fraud in 2020. It is incredible that you are still holding on to this nonsense.
It seems to be a group hypnosis phenomena. The more evidence that only a few R's cheated , the more they see it as proof that everybody is conspiring against them. The more evidence against the Drumpf, the more they see a nation wide conspiracy to frame la douche.

DeSantis is just as much a narcissist as Trump is. He is full of himself...and that's more than apparent

Censorship doesn't play in Peoria. The battle of the Florida men won't help the winner in the general, IMO.

Trump or DeSantis

Sodom or Gomorrah

I watch the favorable/unfavorable ratings of the potential candidates. History has shown folks usually won’t vote for someone they dislike. DeSantis problem is winning in the Republican Primaries, although he is the better general election candidate. DeSantis is the best Republican candidate of winning the general election today. Republicans prefer Trump today over DeSantis. That in my opinion is a huge mistake if the Republicans are more interested in winning in November than making a statement Feb-July.

The base of both major parties today is roughly 30% each which leaves 40% of the electorate being independents. Which simply means the party whose candidate can attract the most independent votes will win. The numbers among independents today favors DeSantis. The thing is both DeSantis and Haley aren’t known that well among all of America. How independents view the potential candidates today.

DeSantis 35% favorable, 34% unfavorable

Haley 25% favorable, 30% unfavorable

Trump 36% favorable, 57% unfavorable

Biden 31% favorable, 57% unfavorable

Harris 27% favorable, 55% unfavorable

DeSantis today is the only potential candidate viewed more positive than negative, abet by a single point. What does all of this mean for Nov 2024, little to nothing as these numbers are dynamic. But today, DeSantis has the best chance of winning the independent vote in the general election and hence the election itself. Independents aren’t political junkies, they rarely pay much if any attention to the daily going ons in Washington until an election nears. They’re finicky and vote more on their likes or dislikes of the candidates. Kind of a popularity contest or a beauty contest. Going back to 1972 independents have gone to the more charismatic candidate except for 2012 when Romney won independents 51-48 over the more charismatic Obama. How one defines charismatic is probably in the eye of the one defining it. There’s no doubt that Reagan, Bill Clinton and Obama have been the most charismatic candidates recently and all won two terms. G.W. Bush was more of a down home boy who won independents twice over two statues, Gore and Kerry. You get the picture.

Either one will take down the senile old pedo Joe the racist liar. Americas has seen enough of the useless idiot. Of the choices the OP offered, as narrow as they are, I would prefer Ronnie. But overall the selection should be broader and include at least one broad if not more. Toss a couple broads into the mix and I’ll select the one I’m leaning towards
Actually, those of us who are a tad more objective, instead of riding the partisan horse, are pleasantly surprised by Biden.
