Trump Lays Out Immigration Policy in Major Speech

I haven't seen anything specific from Drumpf, so if you are explaining it.......you got some 'splainin to do....so do it. How is the Dumpsterfire going to stop US corporations from moving their production overseas?

If you don't want to stay up to date on a topic please also refrain from discussing it.

Uh huh

And how, exactly, do we do that?

It's not my plan, go to Trump's explanation.

riiiiiiight

Most people are rational actors and do things that are in their own self interest, I expect no less from Mexican officials.

And then, when we realize that most of the new unauthorized immigrants are actually coming from Asia

Do you have some data to support that?

and that immigration from South and Central America have actually been on the decline, what do we do then?

What do you mean "what do we do then?" "Home invasion is on the decline, what do we do now?"

He doesn't seem to have one.

Most people are not Homo Economicus, as so much research into behavioral economics shows.

The reaction to Trump visiting Mexico this week ought to give you a good idea how Mexicans are not likely to act calmly and rationally to policy proposals based on insults to the character of their citizens.

And of course, if American political officials were acting in their self-interest, they would not propose absurd, insulting, ineffective and self-defeating protectionist policies, or xenophobic nativist immigration policies.

Do you have some data to support that?
Yep.

I mean, the nativists don't even realize that the nature of immigration (legal and otherwise) is changing.

My, my...how times change...

I could have sworn you were a self-appointed Drumpfsterfire spoxperson:

I am explaining Trump's strategy for coercing Mexico into supporting the wall.

Now yer telling me to find the source for your points....somewheres else.

Nice....phail....ye got there

Yeah he lied and you can't own up to it.

LOL

Yeah, that's it.

Thankfully, I don't suffer from the same reality challenges as some do.

For those suffering from this detachment, fraud, misrepresentation and make believe are the order of the day.

Hitler lays out plan to deport Jews. It will be very, very humane. Those returning may reapply like anybody else.

Aw, you Trumpkins are just delightful.

Aw thank you.

You do know that I am one of the above average Trump supporters right? Trump has a very broad coalition, from the very top of the food chain down to the very bottom. I see with interest that you boys and girls here at the wonderful DP tend to not be aware, you assume that you can exercise your prejudice that Trump likers are dumb, and this fail to grasp reality.

One thing with me, I will always attempt to warn you when you are wrong.

I consider it a duty.

Very broad...as long as one ignores its rather monochromatic nature....

Hi Glen.

Talk to me about this after the election, the sampling on election day I will be watching, and will take seriously...we will know roughly who voted Trump, and who did not. There is no point in arguing about it now. I no longer waste time on the stupid **** for example arguing what will be when we will know what is very soon.

Old age does have its advantages.

You do know this.

You don't have to pay Mexico, you simply freeze them out of the lucrative manufacturing jobs that we send their way.

So you're suggesting Trump have veto power over where private businesses decide to locate facilities? If not, how does the country or Trump "freeze them out."

When Mexico sees illegal immigration into the US as a net loss for them they will assist in closing the border to illegals.

It's always seemed obvious to me the root problem isn't Mexico but U.S. employers who willingly hire "illegals" by the millions because lots of them work very hard in tough jobs for low pay and no fuss since fuss might mean getting deported.

Employers like Trump, for example, who hired a crew of illegals from Poland (as I recall) to take down one of his buildings, provided them no safety equipment, didn't pay overtime (no benefits obviously) and then shorted them on their wages. The workers had to threaten to kill the foreman, took him to the edge of a floor and threatened to push him over, to get paid, and these were people poor enough many of them slept in the building being torn down. And when they sued Trump for back wages, he kept these people in court for 18 years before settling. That's how Trump looks after the little guy.

All that is really why I find the demonizing "illegals" so disgusting. If anyone here in America was half a man, and the choice was walk across the border, take the millions of jobs WE OFFER THEM, and take care of themselves AND family back home with the wages OR, tell the family, "Sorry mom and kids, but it's ILLEGAL to go work in one of those jobs so we'll have to remain in grinding poverty" there is no choice - walk over, work a job, take care of you family.

LOL!!

"the rest of us in the real world" haven't "moved on long ago".

We are stuck. We are stuck on our dislike for Trump.

Oh...sure...one or two of us talk a bit about how good Johnson would be if he could only...get a few more percent...get into the debates...get people to take him seriously...etc. But the rest of us got nothing...except talking about how bad Trump is.

None of us talk about how good Hillary is. Some of us go through mental contortions to talk about how she isn't that bad. None of us talk about what she's going to do for our country.

But hey, dude...it's all right...we have "moved on" long ago.

LOL!!

It doesn't take mental gymnastics to realize that both candidates are bad, but one is much, much worse than the other.

What's the matter, Gaztopian...afraid to name names?

Don't be dense, it isn't cute.

Cute?? Dense??

I'm being serious.

Your post could equally apply to either major candidate...depending upon one's bias. By not naming names, you present the appearance that you don't want to commit yourself.

Oh your post wasn't a typical "Trump awesome! Mexicans bad! Grunt!" cave man type post. It was actually typical of the stereotype that smart right wingers have been trying to shake for decades, which is that men think women are not too bright and need to be kept in the kitchen because we're not capable of anything because we're just too emotional and fragile. Thanks for setting us back a few generations with your posts.

Major speech? Oh yeah ... the speech he gave after landing in Arizona.

Trump sure didn't have the cajones to run his big mouth in Mexico.

You're a clever one, aren't you. Yea, I'm disinclined to commit myself to the notion that Trump is much, much worse than Hillary.

You know, this isn't a Trump rally, nor are we in some trailer trash parking lot.

OK, so you believe that government should dictate locations to private businesses. Great. Noted.

Nope. I didn't actually advocate either position. I am simply pointing out that all the popped monocles from Obama supporters are laughingly hypocritical.

Well, you said we could force Mexico to pay for the wall by "freezing them out" of good manufacturing jobs. What does your suggestion have to do with "popped monocles from Obama supporters"? If you favor freezing them out, isn't it you who is being hypocritical?

Well, he COULD force Mexico to pay through various financial pressures on Mexico. That isn't me taking a position, that is me stating a fact.

I should also point out that until NAFTA the US Government regularly had a say in whether companies could move jobs off shore because moving those goods back into the US was problematic and expensive if the US Government wanted to make it so. All of the current candidates, save Gary Johnson, oppose NAFTA on those grounds because they want to control off shoring through control of returning goods.

Again, that isn't me taking a position, that is me explaining the realities of the current election.

If you want to make a case against Trump for wanting to change NAFTA in an attempt to save American manufacturing you aren't really differentiating him from the rest of the candidates.. other than Gary Johnson.
