If they were so close to making a nuclear weapon, why haven't they in the many years we've been told they were weeks away?

So are most Americans. That’s one of the reasons why Trump got elected twice.

What we’re seeing is the end result of a fraud that was perpetrated not just by Trump and many of his Rightwing supporters but by people who oppose him—namely Democrats and MSM figures. Trump and Conservatives and Libertarians who backed him frequently claimed he was a non-interventionist and a “peace’ candidate who was for “America First.” That was a lie, but it was lie that was also told by Democrats and MSM figures who had globalist and internationalist views. How many times did we hear the latter group accuse Trump of being an “isolationist”?
The truth is that Trump was NEVER a noninterventionist or isolationist. During his first term, he used the military frequently in places like Africa and Syria. And while he made the deal with the Taliban to pull American troops out of Afghanistan, it was Biden that actually withdrew. And Trump was always bellicose when it came to Iran. As everyone knows, he pulled out of the Iran nuclear deal during his first term and almost got us into a shooting war with the Iranians after the killing of Soleimani.
So the image of Trump as a dovish leader was always a mirage (like many of his other images) but one created by his opponents as well as his supporters. When Democrats and MSM types called Trump an isolationist, that had the ironic effect of helping him establish his cred as an antiwar leader.

It is SO easy to rail upon and denigrate an ambiguous amorphous "they".

"They" is the hallmark of non critical thinking and sadly it is also the weakness that is being so exquisitely and painfully exploited to manipulate the naive masses
 
Iran is currently launching retaliatory strikes into Israel.

That's better than stopping them before they get the chance?

So what would be the benefit of striking these uranium enrichment sites other than the wording Iran getting the bomb?
