Trump Just Made This Nation Drop its Tariffs to Zero (2 Viewers)

The average monthly salary in India is around ₹17,997.54. The average annual income is estimated at ₹1,80,000. This translates to roughly $387 per month. While this provides an average, income distribution in India is very uneven, with a large portion of the population earning significantly less.

With Trump's great achievement here today, they will now be able to buy 450$ Nikes without those pesky tariffs!

😅

Trump negotiated the trade in dairy between Canada and USA.
Maybe more American dairy would be acceptable to Canada if American dairy farms didn't feed a growth hormone to their cattle that is banned in Canada and Europe.
And of course there's the understandable need to protect its own farmers. We saw what NAFTA did to subsistence farmers in Mexico.

Except his stated goal was to force companies to build factories in America so a bunch of overqualified people can take minimum wage jobs screwing tiny screws into iphones, and his method of doing that was treating allies like enemies.

If the goal was simply to have other countries reduce tariffs, you negotiate a trade agreement. Such as....

Except all that there really isn't any strategy here. He declared economic war on anyone in the hope of getting a random mish-mash of crumbs until he feels he has enough to declare victory. But it's not going to be some permanent systemic change. Instead, thanks to his method of going about it, there is generational damage to America's standing in the world (and not just from tariffs).
EXACT:LY. Well said. Now this story its pretty meaningless without more detail on exactly what was agreed upon, but there is no American factories mentioned. What WAS mentioned somewhere along the way was "zero for zero" on certain goods. If true, all that means is that the US dropped its tariffs in order to get India to do the same.

Doesn't sound like a huge win to me.

Not of these tariffs are exactly the same, all have their own amount and listed imports.
I've a great idea.
Democrats start trying to fix your pathetic party, and sit back and wait until we see how all the changes shake out. Then if they fail, you actually have something to bitch about and if they succeed and you don't predict doom and gloom on the front end you don't look so dumb.
If it fails, then MAGA blame Biden and democrats.

The important context here is India is doing this on certain imports and there will be a quota, so we'll need to get the details on what those quotas are and whether this is actually a gain or just performative. It is interesting Trump is celebrating this while at the same time complaining about the same type of quantity quota Canada has with US dairy imports.
Completely unsurprisingly, Traitor Trump is lying about Canada ripping off America on dairy tariffs.

The tariff quota limits established under USMCA, which Traitor Trump described as “the best agreement we’ve ever made”, have never been reached, much less exceeded.

President Donald Trump on Tuesday announced that India has agreed to remove all its tariffs on US goods entering the country.

The president made the announcement during a joint press conference with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. While addressing reporters, Trump noted that India has “the highest tariffs in the world” and that its government “agreed already to drop it.”...

Meanwhile, I can't help but wonder if China isn't pulling some strings to make India appear a less than ideal place to do business, in the wake of Apple & other tech companies announcing they're pulling out of China & taking their marbles to India.

The conspiracy theorist in me is willing to consider the possibility it's no coincidence that India & its fellow 3rd-world nuclear power suddenly lobbing missiles at each other.
They had tariffs on US products?

Looks like India will be the new manufacturing hub - replacing China....

The quotas he signed off on...those quotas?

Also, India doesn't really buy shit from the US.

They have a population 340x the size of Canada's, and they buy about half of what Canada buys.

This is meaningless MAGA chicken feed. Who genuinely thinks these people will be buying 1200$ iphones and $50K f150s?

Yes, but if somehow India's move gets Trump to drop tariffs against India, it's good for us since we have a lot of manufacturing there. I mean, it wouldn't accomplish any of the BS Trump is talking about, but Trump and MAGA aren't actually about accomplishments, they're about meaningless claims.

It reads to me that this is still a proposal and no deal has been struck. On the other hand India has entered into a signed deal with the UK. If there was a actually a deal Trump would be doing a Rose Garden event!!!

how long do we have to wait for them to "succeed"? what is the metric to know if they "succeed"?
why would we wait for something that no one who is intelligent and credible thinks is a good idea?
if trump started burning down factories and claiming it would make us great, would you support that?

I refuse to engage with clickbait headlines

FYI, The government of India has not confirmed this:

"India has, however, not officially made any statements in this regard as trade talks with the US remain underway.

Sources familiar with the ongoing negotiations told Bloomberg that India has proposed a zero-for-zero tariff arrangements on specific goods such as steel, auto parts, and pharmaceuticals, but with a cap on import volumes and based on mutual reciprocity. If imports exceed agreed thresholds, standard duties would be reinstated."

--

Now, Trump lies about everything, and Trump and his team have been lying constantly about the tariffs. It's just non-stop lying, backtracking, excuses, and so on. So, if I were you, I would not take anything the lying sack of shit says at face value.

I think it's more likely that this talk of dropping tariffs to zero is about the preliminary arrangement outlined above.

And this is just the thing right.

Trumpists will break there neck from spinning around so fast to tell us what all this is really about.

Is it manufacturing?

Is it "Making a deal"?

Is America a Weak, helpless Victim?

Is it the strongest nation on Earth?

Who the **** knows...

Trump has no plan and his cult, very well trained at this point, simply fill in the blank with their own fantastical and deluded fantasies about whats really going on.

Hooray! Today he's for free trade zero tariffs! Can't wait to see tomorrow...

The important thing throughout this entire process is assessing whether these are good deals at all compared to what was in place prior. Remember, we have to factor in the loss in value to the markets and where they are after these deals are signed and if they were worth it. You'll notice the administration is just talking about deals, but those are only good if there's something really positive in it for the US, and generally nations will want to seek out something that's in their interest too.

They had tariffs on US products?

India had a protectionist trade policy until the reforms of 1991. Since then, she has been continuously reducing tariffs as she eases her way into the global economy.

India's recent move in the direction of free trade agreements is merely a continuation of her trend away from her historical protectionist policies that has been going on every year for over 30 years, regardless of who the President of the United States was.

But since Trump is president now, he's happy to take credit for India continuing her 34-year policy trend.

Doesn't that strike you as odd?
Sure does.
