The ex-President is showing that he doesn’t have to be in the Oval Office to damage faith in US elections and to trash truth, as his movement based on lies and personal homage takes an increasingly firm grip of the Republican Party. The widespread mistrust he continues to foster in the fairness of the US political system among millions of voters poses grave risks to democracy itself.
Yes. It astounds me too.“It is just mind boggling to me that Republicans could be this way,” said Dave Millage, who was forced to resign his post as chair of the Scott County, Iowa, Republican Party after backing Trump’s impeachment over the Capitol insurrection...“He was attacking American democracy itself. Yet they are standing by him. It just astounds me.”
Yeah...it sucks when the party rank and file get pissed off at the people they placed in leadership positions...when the rank and file decide to correct their error by forcing those people out. At least, it sucks for those getting forced out. It's a good thing for the rank and file.Incredibly, the former president may be even more powerful behind closed doors than he was out in the open. Why? Republican fealty.
Analysis: The GOP's devotion to Trump threatens to destroy American democracy
With its cultish devotion to Donald Trump, the majority of the Republican Party is choosing a wannabe-autocrat over the political system that made the United States the world's most powerful nation and its dominant democracy.www.cnn.com
Yes. It astounds me too.
People forget Germany was once the most modern, stable country in the world. Then Hitler happened.Demagogues gonna demagogue. People like Trump aren't unusual but what is unique is that in modern times he was able to do so well in a modern democracy. It's a good example of why it's important to be out voting. In the absence of reason passion can get the upper hand and pretty quickly mess up even the most stable country.
Well, I wouldn't call the Weimar Republic in any way stable.People forget Germany was once the most modern, stable country in the world. Then Hitler happened.
Lol CNNIncredibly, the former president may be even more powerful behind closed doors than he was out in the open. Why? Republican fealty.

Wait, will they share a prison cell with Hillary Clinton?Trump is a danger to Trumpers too. Trump whacko Brendan Hunt was convicted last week for threatening the lives of Congressmen and Senators on January 8th. He had taken the stand and claimed that he did it because he "believed Donald Trump" and thus THE BIG LIE. Keep it up Trumpers. You may find yourselves sharing a prison cell with your worst nightmare.
Nope....HIllary is not their worst nightmare of a prison cell inmate. She does not have the right "equipment".Wait, will they share a prison cell with Hillary Clinton?
Care to show that happening in the GOP? McConnell no longer a power within? Please explain why Liz Cheney is getting attacked by her own party.Yeah...it sucks when the party rank and file get pissed off at the people they placed in leadership positions...when the rank and file decide to correct their error by forcing those people out. At least, it sucks for those getting forced out. It's a good thing for the rank and file.
btw, this Two Party/UniParty political system we have going on isn't what made the US "the world's most powerful nation and its dominant democracy". It was the American People and our Constitution that did that.
Yea, its astounding you found a CNN fish wrap worthy piece of garbageIncredibly, the former president may be even more powerful behind closed doors than he was out in the open. Why? Republican fealty.

His populism got him there and seems to appeal to a significant number. The real threat he poses is the way he is undermining the democratic process with his continued lies about the stolen election. Once a significant number of citizens have lost faith in their democratic processes the door is open for autocratic strongmen to take over and control the thinking of the believers. I think that is pretty much where the GOP is today. Totally controlled by one man.Republicans are in a catch 22. Either embrace Trumpian politics or become pariahs to the party. His reactionary populism resonated with too many voters...
germany was a ****ing mess after WW1, THEN Hitler happened.People forget Germany was once the most modern, stable country in the world. Then Hitler happened.

One person certainly is not.Never seen a bunch of "adults" so afraid of one person.
Its so pathetic.
That is true, and look at how she is being treated by GQP. Crap, MCCarthy wanted to strip her of her committees because she dared go against Trump. One person certainly is not.
Cheney calls out Trump's latest attempt to promote 'BIG LIE' amid criticism from within her own party
Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney, the No. 3 House Republican, publicly rejected former President Donald Trump's most recent false charge that he would've won the 2020 election if not for "fraudulent" votes, her latest rebuke of the former president that has put her at odds with many members of her own party.www.cnn.com
we respect every single piece of it, unlike progressive democrats who would rip out the 1st and 2nd amendments if they could,Yes, the Constitution. With it's elections. Something Trumpists don't respect.
Someone has to have an Edward R Murrow backbone and point out the emperor has no clothes.Liz Cheney is not the least bit worried about Trump. I expect she is going to be extremely vocal and hard hitting with the truth leading up to 2022 and 2024. She isn't afraid to lose her senior position or her seat. Some things just aren't worth selling your integrity for. She has guts and strong conservative principles, both of which are sorely lacking in most Republican politicians these days. Let's hope her voice and her strength will resonate strongly with those Republicans still capable of independent thought and who hold strong conservative values.
