I constantly hear people defending Trump by saying he's right. Right about what? Calling a country a sh**thole is not a factual claim. It's just an insult. That's a fact.

There are many poor developing countries. The countries Trump referred to are just poor countries. There are billions of people who work hard and struggle and proud of their humble homes and love their country.
What Trump did was insult the poorest of the poor.

Imagine a rich man who visits a very poor man's home and says, "wow, you live in a sh**hole!" Isn't such a man simply evil?

Certainly, we're not going to make America great by being arrogant and insulting other nations. You don't become great by belittling and insulting your neighbors in the midst of their hardships.

Trump is only succeeding in Making America Evil.

The drinking water in haiti literally has **** in it. ****hole is an apt description.

Rand Paul: Trump isn't prejudiced against Haiti because he helped fund my medical mission trip there

He seems to be doing more than you for that ****hole anyways.

Rude? Yes.

Evil? No. Learn the difference, lol.

That (bolded above) assertion is your interpretation. What Trump did, IMHO, is to call countries that are economic basket cases and are rife with crime and government corruption - ****holes. The purpose for that remark was to voice an objection to continued chain immigration and the diversity lottery systems being used in place of a much more merit based immigration system coupled with much better immigration law enforcement.

Saying something that hurts your feelings doesn't make one evil. It just makes you overly sensitive and sort of a candyass.

"Failed state" sounds like it flunked a pointy headed liberal's pop quiz.

"**** hole" explains in two words why we should think twice about admitting them bases on the luck of the lottery. Hell, they could be cannibals for all we know. :o

Yet another attempt to try and twist Trump's words to make them sound less awful.

1. What does a merit based system have to do with nationality?

2. Do well educasted people from wealthy European countries want to immigrate to the U.S.? No.

Are legal immigrants to this country from poor countries a problem? No. These people come from countries where an education is required to elevate yourself out of poverty. These immigrants tend to be better educated and more successful than American citizens.

Again, I repeat that sh**hole is an insult not a description. If those countries are sh**holes than it's fair for them to call Trump an a**hole.

But I guess Trump calling countries sh**holes and them calling an a**hole fits perfectly with Trump's character. If that's also your character then that's regrettable.

See, that's incredibly racist. I fully understand why someone like you supports the president.

And I repeat this is evil. You, people like you and the president are part of darkness that plagues the world. It's sad.

The Constitution was never intended to be used to destroy the nation through immigration of those who don't, probably won't, or can't assimilate.

1) Nothing, thus the rest of your argument based on switching to that system is moot.

You and I are just lucky to be born where we were born. It's only by the Grace of God that we weren't born in a brothel in an Indian slum.

And you can't measure a country by it's poorest neighborhoods. There many people who have clean humble homes. Do they live in sh**holes? Some are even rich and have large homes.

I lived in Africa as a child for many years. We had a huge house and servants. Moving to the U.S. was a tremendous downgrade. I wouldn't have described by time in Africa as a s**hole.

And yes, not caring about others and their feelings is a quality of evil. Being rich and insulting the poorest of the poor is arrogant and evil.

That makes no sense. The president complained about taking people from certain countries. He was discriminating by nationality, not merit.

You should get paid for working this hard as a Trump apologist

I have zero problems with anyone from one of those chitehole countries coming here if they educate themselves and prove they are an asset. You're side just wants to open the floodgates and let them all in in the hopes a few of them turn out good while making the rest of us deal with the not so good ones.

Good for you, you found a picture of a dump.

You know we have those here as well right?

Sure. We have our own ****holes.

Doesn't take away from the validity of Trump's statement at all.

You and Trump are racists and racists tend to be ignorant of facts...

According to Census data, more than 43 percent of African immigrants hold a bachelor’s degree or higher -- slightly more than immigrants from East Asia. Nigerian immigrants are especially educated, with almost two-thirds holding college degrees -- a significantly higher percentage even than Chinese or South Korean immigrants. African immigrants are also very likely to hold advanced degrees, many of which are earned at U.S. universities. By many measures, African immigrants are as far ahead of American whites in the educational achievement as whites are ahead of African-Americans.

That education translates into higher household income. Nigerian-Americans, for instance, have a median household income well above the American average, and above the average of many white and Asian groups, such as those of Dutch or Korean descent.

Your claim is demonstrably false. African immigrants from impoverished countries assimilate very well.

This is a Haitian West Point graduate. He graduated at to top of his class and studied physics. He said he was crying thinking about all he went through to get to that point. That's what America is about not your racist nonsense.

It's not a valid statement. It's an insult. If I called you an a**hole, can we evaluate the validity of that statement and come to some agreement about whether or not you're an a**hole?

And I have zero problem with increasing the requirements. Most liberals wouldn't have any problem with that. But we don't have a problem with legal immigrants. Our legal immigrants from poor countries do very well. So, you're imagining a problem that doesn't exist.

You do realize that not everyone can apply for the diversity lottery, right? You need at least a high school degree or certain vocational experiences. And there are other barriers that filter out dysfunctional people. Those who come to the U.S. come to work and contribute. And the statistics prove that.

That young man is certainly the best “poster child” for merit based immigration!

Sounds like he would be a good candidate for merit-based immigration.

The current immigration system is (mainly) based on chain migration and diversity lottery systems which, by definition, focus on nationality. Trump is trying to get away from that nationality, ethnicity and race based nonsense and to use merit instead. Folks have no problem with merit based hiring and college admission systems so why not use a merit based system for immigration?

Harvard University is actually proud of saying that they accept only about 5% of all applicants. Would a workplace or college be better if it accepted folks based on zip-code quotas or a random draw and just drop their merit based qualification system?
