Despite GOP claims that this impeachment is wholly motivated by partisanship, we can look back into the recent past to see an impeachment like so. Hyper partisan Newt Gingrich led the impeachment of Bill Clinton over dishonesty about a blowjob. Hmm. Dishonesty and philandering. Who does that sound like?

The GOP loves to deflect criticism of Trump by blaming partisanship. However despite their cries; the Trump impeachment has solid legs to stand on. Unlike what Republicans tried to do to Clinton in the 90's, the Democrats have a pile of misdeeds and violations of the Constitution that would be worthy of impeachment regardless of party affiliation.

Get real. Clinton was a bum and TRump is a bum.

Trump compromised national security by withholding aid approved by Congress in a bid to extort a foreign power to fabricate charges against a domestic political opponent. This is a lot different than a blowjob. Clinton was sleazy. Trump is a threat to the United States of America.

Back then I was a Republican. I was much younger and politically naive but I felt that a president should never lie to the American people. I felt that getting on TV and flat out lying by saying he never had sexual relations was in itself an impeachable offense.

I guess I'm a bit idealistic.

Now, I think he should never have been put in a position to answer questions about his personal life publically.

Yeah, it was just scraping the bottom of the barrel. They were hoping to get him on some embezzlement type, corrupt financial dealings, which would have been legit. But they came up empty so they pivoted to lying about a BJ.

They did the same to Hillary. They investigated Benghazi, found nothing then dug through her email to find some email mismanagement scandal.

Clinton didn't get impeached for a blowjob, he got impeached for lying under oath.

Perhaps when you can even be honest about something so simple one could take your more seriously.

You do have a minor problem: (from a CNN article)

The whistleblower didn’t have direct knowledge of the communications, an official briefed on the matter told CNN. Instead, the whistleblower’s concerns came in part from learning information that was not obtained during the course of their work, and those details have played a role in the administration’s determination that the complaint didn’t fit the reporting requirements under the intelligence whistleblower law, the official said.

You have congress calling for a transcript based on allegations of a person not in the loop i.e. “hearsay”. The person heard from a friend, and friend, etc. it was noted and dismissed, then leaked since the Mueller report didn’t do the job.

Trump says he’s planning to release it as unredacted as practical.

I’m inclined to wait for that.

The DNI wouldn't have broken the law to save Trumps ass if there wasn't anything juicy in there

"But you can't read anything into that, they break the law all the time!" the Trump apologist protested unironically.

I can read. Everyone knows you saying "dishonesty over a bj" is implying he told a white lie about the situation. When in fact he lied under oath to Congress. Something that is much greater than simple dishonesty.

I'm going to wait and see what the report and transcript says assuming it's not so redacted that it has no meaning before I get too worked up. I honestly think the decision to release the transcript itself is because the whistle blower has offered to testify them self so Trump probably wants to get his narrative out there first and prevent the need to have them testify, all depends on what it says.

I've never been in favor of impeachment but IF the allegation is true I will support impeachment but let's see first. I'm waiting for Mitt's response, should be interesting.

Hatred for Trump is not a partisan issue. It's an establishment issue. There are trillions at stake.

If I wanted to withhold that I knew they impeached him for lying about a BJ, I would've said they impeached him just for a BJ. I didn't say they impeached him for a BJ. I said they impeached him for dishonesty about a BJ. Your concern trolling notwithstanding.

What if the "transcript" is written in Sharpie?

Now, I think he should never have been put in a position to answer questions about his personal life publically.

I think he should have owned up to it 100% and then turned to Henry Hyde (who helped SPEARHEAD the impeachment) and asked if he had to appear in public and confess his "youthful indiscretions" while he cleaned up his own extramarital mess.

Then he should have asked what his extramarital affair had to do with running the country.

Actually, it sounds like Newt Gingrich too! The revaluation of his second affair happened about the time DeLay and Hastert forced him out. I think he asked his wife for a divorce while she was in a hospital bed (but that may have been the first wife).

The way Trump is handling it reminds me of the way he handled the revelation of the Trump Tower meeting.

Deny at first, deny it again, and use the “even if I did, it wouldn’t be wrong” ploy, confirm it. In the case of the Don Jr meeting, the rollout was very quick. After a brief denial, they fessed up and provided the e-mail chain. And nothing more......

In the brief interval between the revelations, the Trump team tried hinting that their opponants were going to be disappointed. As if they had some play, some three deminsional chess move.

But they didn’t.

The noise machine tried to parse it at first, but has joined Trump in trying to normalize the corrupt behavior.

Lying all day, every day to the public about matters of national interest (trump) >>>>> Clinton lying to Ken about his affair in a perjury trap.
Multiple counts of obstruction into a federal investigation > lying about a BJ
Pushing a foreign leader to investigate his chief political rival in the coming election >>> lying to ken about a BJ.

Be serious.

That's right. If there is nothing to hide and its the truth, why block it? Why obstruct it? Why fight about never revealing it? Why trot out Rudy? Why the changing story?
Why now talking about a single White House prepared transcript when we want the whistleblower complaint sent to congress?

I don't even want the public to see/hear the transcript right now, it's private between Ukraine and Trump. But congress should definitely have received it.
