Trump goes off script, and white supremacists cheer

I don't support any extremist organization, from either side.

But it bugs me immensely when after making it crystal clear he does not support the white power groups...that when he then addresses the OTHER side honestly? This is considered somehow reversing his prior condemnation.

It might bug you but it shouldn't surprise you given Trump's long history on the subject and what he did before and after those prepared remarks. Just on Monday, he made it "crystal clear" he does not support white power groups, then pretty much immediately floated the pardon Sheriff Joe Arpaio balloon. Calling that a dog whistle to the white power crowd is an insult to bullhorns.

And it's not just liberals who think this way - the WHITE POWER crowd agree with us. They were thrilled with his response on Saturday, wrote off his prepared remarks on Monday as PC bullcrap, and cheered him again on Tuesday. If those are the only people who think you're doing a good job on the issue, Trump has a serious, serious problem.

The left has some pretty abhorrent groups as well, but apparently we must give that side a "pass" because they are fighting on the side of "virtue."

Actually, it is reminiscent of how we pretended Stalin and Communist Russia were the "good guys" at least while they were fighting the Nazis. :coffeepap:

No, that's not right at all. No one expects Trump to give those on the left engaged in violence a "pass." What we expect is for Trump to be crystal clear in his condemnation of the white supremacists/racists/neo-Nazis, and again, THOSE people, the racist dirtbags, as we speak are confident Trump still has their back. Don't blame us for failures of the POTUS.

My goodness, just today, the CEO council voted to disband because they knew it was simply untenable to continue to serve Trump. Their companies simply could not be seen as endorsing in any way his response. And the Joint Chiefs made a pretty remarkable group effort to individually condemn racism and bigotry, made necessary because their commander in chief left that fundamental question unanswered in the minds of WAY too many people. Pres. Bush I and II issued their own statement. This really is incredible what we're witnessing.

Had Trump made what is a layup for every POTUS since at least LBJ none of that would be necessary. Does the POTUS condemn white nationalists/supremacists/neo-Nazis? Not one American should have ANY doubt, but just look at who DOES have doubts - Joint Chiefs, former Presidents, CEOs AND WHITE SUPREMACISTS!

What does Joe Arpio have to do with white supremacy?

come on people
he got a hair cut
nothing about that says "nazi"

Nothing....except that it's the same haircut as Hitlers...and just happens to be a very popular hair style with the alt right and neo nazi's.

If you have to ask, there's no need for me to respond because it will be the equivalent of talking to a brick wall.

On August 12, 2017 Peoples Action for Racial Justice (PARJ) will be held in Charlottesville’s McGuffey and Justice Parks from 9AM to 7 PM.
appears the resistance was sanctioned to protest/assemble at two parks away from where the violence erupted (emancipation/mcintyre park) for which the nazis, alt:white, klucKKKers were authorized to conduct their march/protest/assembly

Add 'empowers' to make it a manage a trois of evil by Trump.

So in other words, you're playing word games to make it sound like Trump is rooting for them.

Are you and Justabubba having fun scraping the bottom of the barrel for lame arguments?

Try it.

Try to explain what he has to do with that.

Is he a closeted Grand Dragon?

there is a particular skill set "reading for comprehension". you need to acquire it

Richard Spencer at least believes Trump is rooting for them. http://www.businessinsider.com/richard-spencer-says-trump-didnt-condemn-the-alt-right-2017-8

"His statement today was more kumbaya nonsense," said Spencer, who attended and was slated to speak at the white nationalist "Unite the Right" rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, on Saturday. "Only a dumb person would take those lines seriously."

Of course, if we believe what the white nationalists and white supremacists believe about Trump, we've got a problem and not a POTUS whose actions indicate to the bigots that he's a kindred spirit.

From what I understand...out of concern for public safety, the police decided to move the Alt right's protest rally to another location before it even really started....and then chaos ensued and they were dispersed among the counter protesters. Now the Alt right is claiming they were set up by the police and the left.

"emboldens" and "promotes/supports" are 2 different animals.

Just because he "emboldens" WSs, does not mean he supports them.

When it's the POTUS, not a difference with a meaningful distinction.

The fact that he doesn't have to is probably something he would agree with. I don't believe Trump feels he has any sort of obligation to the American people in the sense of public service, and the idea that he should, as President of the United States, be obliged to provide any sort of moral leadership is probably alien to him.

I think you've nailed it.

Look whose playing word games now. ^^^

As long as they think Trump does support them....then they are emboldened to impose their ideology on other people.

He refused to address White Supremacist groups at all for three days, finally gave a statement begrudgingly acknowledging them, then directed all of his frustration at everybody but white supremacist groups.

Yep....exactly. His "condemnation talk" was simply an empty "hostage-type" telemprompter speech written by a staffer. It was completely empty as evidenced by the rapid turn around where he exposed his true self.

This is not all that complex people.

From the article:

No one can claim to be "peaceful" when you show up with rifles. They came armed to the teeth for a reason and it isn't because their 90 lb weaklings. I don't know if there has ever been a left wing demonstration where the participants brought rifles.

In the country I want thew people who show up at a demonstration with rifles or any firearm go to jail.

Don't ANYONE try to tell me there was 'peace' on the part of the haters. They came to hate, with guns and people died as a result of right wing terrorism.

Hard to tell them from LEO.

my understanding is that the city proposed moving the nazi/alt:white/KKK event to a place other than emancipation park, which i believe is the location of the lee statue in question
the ACLU was successful in going to federal court to prevent such a move

the purpose of my post was to illustrate that the resistance did have assembly permits
however, the chaos and violence erupted at emancipation park; the place where the klucKKKers were legally situated

emancipation park was not the authorized assembly area for the resistance protest. had the resistance remained apart from the white supremacist gathering, there would have been no confrontation and thus, no violent outcome
