Trump ex advisor Bannon convicted of contempt of U.S. Congress

It's an interesting scenario though, because the process of accepting the pardon requires a written acceptance of guilt.
did nixon accede in writing as a condition of the presidential pardon he enjoyed?
or is it more a presumption than one must first be guilty of something to then need a pardon for having committed said legal violation?

He's never been convicted of anything, correct?

clean record means (A) no conviction for an offense punishable by more than one year, (B) no conviction for any “sex offense” as defined in 42 U.S.C. § 16911(5)-(8),
Why was he pardoned if he wasn't convicted of anything? This is the kind of guy you are making excuses for. I hope he got some of your money.

The judge screwed up by not allowing Bannon to present his defense and not allowing him to confront witnesses. This is the bedrock of our justice system.

That is what his appeal will be all about.
He'll be laughed out of court with his appeal. Now was it the judge didn't allow a defense or that bannon's lawyer called no witnesses?

I know for sure he got at least one poster here's money. They were positively giddy about Bannon and his buddy " building " a wall.

It was the judge.

He was pardoned before there was even a trial.

Stating facts is not "making excuses." Whether or not Bannon has a clean record has nothing to do with whether or not you like the guy.

It was the judge.
He was appointed by Trump.

He knew the appeal was going to be automatic so I'm sure he was careful to follow the law to a T.

You are grasping at straws. Bannon is going to jail.

Does a pardon suggest there was guilt somewhere?

It's mycroft with his daily defense of anything or anyone republican, radical republican.

He was appointed by Trump.
So what?

He knew the appeal was going to be automatic so I'm sure he was careful to follow the law to a T.
Well, that judge certainly gave Bannon a good case to mount an appeal.

(Maybe that judge was just protecting his own ass...giving the dog and pony show what they want, while giving Bannon a sure fire appeal that someone else will have to take the heat for when they toss the lower court case.)

You are grasping at straws. Bannon is going to jail.
Keep your hopes alive, but remember...you can always scream into the night sky. (I've heard that helps those with a liberal mindset.)

Witnesses need to be relevant to the crime being charged. Bannon was served a lawful subpoena and Bannon refused to comply. Are you suggesting there is a witness out there who can testify that he did comply? He could have gotten up on the stand and under oath explained why he chose to do that but Bannon chose not
Irrelevant. A clean record means no prior convictions.
No longer.

And he will soon be charged with multiple felonies out of New York.

Not looking good for Lil Stevie

So what?

No he didn't. He followed the law to a T.

The appeal will be dismissed in short order.

It's always nut job conspiracy theories with you.

On 2 counts.

Dems doing cartwheels :)

'bout time someone goes to jail, or, rather, he'd better get some time.

What do y'all think is fair?

I'd go with 2 years for his public defiance and lack of remorse.

Actually, I'm a bit surprised, I thought for sure there would be at least one Bannon sympathizer unwilling to hear the facts and hang the jury, but I was wrong. Good to hear folks adhering to the rule of law.

This ought to put a scare in Navarro. He's next.

WASHINGTON, July 22 (Reuters) - Steve Bannon, a key associate of former President Donald Trump and an influential figure on the American right, was convicted on Friday of contempt of Congress for defying a subpoena from the committee investigating last year's attack on the U.S. Capitol, a major victory for the Democratic-led panel.

A jury found Bannon, 68, guilty of two misdemeanor counts for refusing to provide testimony or documents to the House of Representatives select committee as it scrutinizes the Jan. 6, 2021, rampage by Trump supporters who tried to upend the results of the 2020 presidential election.
I think he should get the maximum penalty: Two years plus $200,000. The man's an evil psychopath.

I am shocked!

Absolutely shocked!

Whoever thought that a D.C. (!!!) jury would ever convict a friend of Donald J. Trump!
Everyone who believes in the rule of law.

Are you suggesting that Trump's DOJ was weak and incompetent? They had FOUR years to prosecute Hillary... Were they just idiots?
Trump also had four years to dismantle the imaginary "deep state". The very worst president by miles in every living person's lifetime.

I'm suggesting I'm totally flabbergasted why more sleazy Democrat aren't going to jail. It literally blows my mind. I'm sure AOC must've served a few underage kids in her bartending career. Where's the FBI looking into her?
Does the FBI do a lot of investigating for serving alcohol to minors, which you can't prove, where you live?

Oddly, the statute actually says "jail"... which I don't believe the federal system has jails.

The description further on reads 'jail term'. I've just never heard of a federal remand to county. Might happen, but I don't see how the jurisdictions sort it.

'But, but Hillary'. It's getting old mate; she has been investigated already-and cleared...
They'll be bitching about Obama and Hillary for the rest of their miserable lives.

Whatever the sentences, they will run concurrently. He's a loudmouthed, rabble-rousing thief. Let him cool off at a federal boy scout camp for a month.
How do you know they will run concurrently?
