They may only have so much room to maneuver. A judge can choose to depart downward, as the guidelines are no longer mandatory. But unless the judge has their head up their ass, they'll know this is only happening because Trump tweeted (after all, he can fire the prosecutors, being CiC), and will not take the new request seriously.

Russia was interfering. Mueller can name the guys responsible. The document that appointed Mueller and started his investigation was, "Appointment of Special Counsel to Investigate Russian Interference with the 2016 Presidential Elections and Related Matters."

If only Trump would believe that the Russians in fact interfered with our election and that part of the investigation shouldn't be thrown out with the 'exonerating' parts as Trump seems willing to do.
