Trump Declares CNN, NYT, CBS, ABC And NBC Are "The Enemy of The American People"

it been many many years since i have been this happy, the confusion, complaining, anger, hatefulness, hysteria, is like music.

so far my happy train is rolling and i hope it continues.

'If you thought yesterday's press conference was "ranting and raving", it appears President Trump just turned the anti-'Fake news'-media amplifier up to '11', declaring CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS , The New York Times (yet not The Washington Post) as "enemies of the American people".'

Thoughts?

I like that he's basically saying NPR is part of the honest media and then upon entering office immediately threatens their existence. So he's trying to get rid of the outlet he considers to be honest and is mad about the outlets that he feels aren't honest. How do you spell hypocrite?

So you have nothing but personal insults to offer?

That means I must be right

No, you had a opinion. That just happens to been exactly what Trump has been saying. Parroting Trump doesnt make you "right" it makes your argument nothing more than propaganda for trump.

What is 'kool aid'? And why has it anything to do with observing that the old media have mostly become agents of propaganda rather than information?

Sorry but a free press is more important than the risk of politicians exploiting it. But as far as politicians exploiting the media, its a false argument that it is nothing more than propaganda. A simple google search will find many media sites that are not in on whatever propaganda that you think is dominating media.

Typical bull**** that his voter base will slurp up as he continues to play them for fools.

So far, it's Trump who's proven he's an enemy of the American people. Well, to the non-rich ones, anyway.

The free press terrifies and annoys a clown like Trump.

Numerous right wingers more and more believe there to be some great media conspiracy against them since they're not big on tackling reality head-on. When the facts conflict with their worldview, which is mostly just dripping with ideology and emotion rather than any critical thinking or honesty, they spit on it as something "liberal." It's pretty ****ing crazy.

The first page of this thread is a good example.

Thanks for the link. I see that the 'Kool aid' thing has something to do with peer pressure. Not relevant to me in conformist Sweden; here it is still a minority which distrusts the MSM - though this minority is growing.

I entirely agree with your point about the crucial importance of a free press. Equally important is that the press should be open to criticism. I think the present US administration understands this and will take no steps to limit the freedom of the press - if it did it would assuredly fail. Meanwhile President Trump has every reason to believe that much of the old media is going all out to destroy his administration, by fair means or foul. IMO he has every right to draw attention to their plot.

As 'Kool aid' is not available to me I am about to have a cup of tea. Is that OK with you?

Thoughts?

I mentioned in another thread what a hypocrite Trump is for citing media bias, when his entire election was based on media bias. The Tea Party, which he espouses so heavily, would not even be in existence, if it weren't for the unprecedented FOX media bias.

I would say that your use of the term MEDIA - this leftist liberal boogey man in a ghost costume that so scares the right wing - is something that does not exist as you describe it. The media is varied and across partisan and ideological lines and varies in different communities across our nation.

Hardly. Journalists and news organizations are inherently liberal biased.

There is even worse, more subtle bias that many news organizations are perpetrating. This is most easily described as what's front page news, and what's burried in the back pages, or not reported on at all. Editorial bias. It's true. Many news organizations will report anything which shows a liberal in a positive light as front page news, and any thing which shows a liberal in a negative light as back page news or not at all. Exactly the opposite for conservatives.
You think I'm kidding that news organizations have a liberal bias? Answer me this question. How can you be staffing large news organizations with 85% liberals and not have that liberal bias come through in their news coverage?

Along the same lines, David Baron of Stanford GSB presents a game-theoretic model of mass media behavior in which, given that the pool of journalists systematically leans towards the left or the right, mass media outlets maximize their profits by providing content that is biased in the same direction.[SUP][9][/SUP] They can do so, because it is cheaper to hire journalists that write stories which are consistent with their political position. A concurrent theory would be that supply and demand would cause media to attain a neutral balance because consumers would of course gravitate towards the media they agreed with. This argument fails in considering the imbalance in self-reported political allegiances by journalists themselves, that distort any market analogy as regards offer: (...) Indeed, in 1982, 85 percent of Columbia Graduate School of Journalism students identified themselves as liberal, versus 11 percent conservative" (Lichter, Rothman, and Lichter 1986: 48), quoted in Sutter, 2001.[SUP][8][10][/SUP]
Media bias - Wikipedia

Think about where the vast majority of the TV news organizations are based. New York City. Would you call New York City a liberal town, or a conservative town? Thought so. A liberal town. So there's an echo chamber of liberal thought that permeates the New York media outlets. Talk about a lack of diversity! There you have it in spades. The only cure that I can think of would be if one or more of the outlets was forced to relocate to the middle of the country. If only that were possible.
Here are only a few examples of what is a long list of many:

That means I must be right
They only insult you when they see you as a credable threat. Telling the truth has a tendency to do that.

We are on the same page here. I think that many of the electorate are starting to see him this way as well. Last I recall, his job approval rate was up to 55% or something like that, and continues to go up, giving the anti-Trumpers absolute fits. (Never mind seeing that - especially if it's self-inflicted)

Try 40% (10 points lower than ever recorded by a POTUS one month into his term) and falling.

Gallup: Trump job approval 21 points below average at one-month mark - CBS News

Iowa Poll: Trump's approval rating is underwater with Iowans

Its not the approval numbers that are telling; its the disapproval numbers, which are over 50%.

While Trumpsters love the guy.... the independent/undecided crowd that reluctantly voted for him, have jumped overboard.

Committee To Protect Journalists Declares Trump “Unprecedented Threat” To Free Press

When MSNBC's Joe Scarborough asked him in December if his admiration of Russian President Vladimir Putin was at all tempered by the country's history of critical journalists being murdered, his response was: "He's running his country, and at least he's a leader, unlike what we have in this country... Well, I think that our country does plenty of killing, too."

Through his words and actions, Trump has consistently demonstrated a contempt for the role of the press beyond offering publicity to him and advancing his interests.

For this reason CPJ is taking the unprecedented step of speaking out now. This is recognizing that a Trump presidency represents a threat to press freedom unknown in modern history.

Have CNN, New York Times, Washington Post, and the other so-called news organizations apologized for working with the DNC to sabotage Bernie Sanders' campaign? It sounds like the MSM is the threat to journalism. What did the committee have to say about that abdication of journalistic integrity?

of course, anything that makes Trump look bad because he makes himself look bad is automatically "enemy of the american people," even though 5/6 americans did not vote for him

he just wants to emulate Putin and every other dictator so bad. He wants to destroy all traces of journalism and have Faux News the only legal channel

What this all boils down to is that We the People are simply ****ed. Between fake news and alternative facts, and a government now demanding that they be believed...we're in a heap of ****.

Well said, but i would also add to the problems that the viewers of this media and political spin have never heard of critical thinking. It's just not a skill that's taught any more in K-12. They believe whatever they hear, and they hear whatever confirms their fears and biases. For example, they think crime is going up because they see on the 24/7 news crime after crime, where 80% is committed by blacks even though it should be half that if it were reflecting the real world. They would know all this if they just did the most basic of research. If people did this, you wouldn't have the dick measuring contest over who is to be believed. Trump wouldn't be crying about what this or that channel said because people would go find out on their own that he and his baghdad Spicer are massive liars with ulterior motives to everything

So now we have state governments passing highly damaging civil rights laws that are all of 3 pages, hoping no one notices, and 5 page EOs that don't bother to clarify anything about green cards. And then a few channels mention this and Trump calls them "enemies of the people" because he assumes the voters won't read those 3-5 pages or even bother to find out what a green card is (no, it's not a jihadist refugee!). So he calls the networks that aren't in his favor liars, says no, those stories of parents separated from their kids and college students harassed at their return flight never happened. The tiny inauguration crowd was a media trick. The violent thugs at his rallies were Hillary plants. In a functioning society of adults, it takes some balls to lie this much

Read something only hours ago that says Trump just got designated the Kremlin's Employee of the Month (video withheld however).

And in Beijing Donald is suddenly up for the Robert Mugabe Award which in Beijing is a decidedly celebrated distinction.

In Washington and New York lawyers are examining the 25th Amendment provisions about removing a Potus who's lost it. The legal technicalities are tough however given Donald Trump hasn't ever had it to lose and that a bunch of voters gave him the electoral college in the full knowledge of it.

Nixon got maneuvered into resigning so there may still be some hope...or pressures at some point before too much longer. CIA knows Putin has tapes and Putin knows CIA has moles in Russia so we'll just have to see how all this may play out...by hook or by crook.

The Committee for the Protection of Journalists said Putin orders journalists murdered, to include dissidents. Your personal issue is more appropriately taken elsewhere.

Unless the guy is Julian Assange who got a live talk show in Moscow broadcast nationally under the direct auspices of Vladimir Putin.

Reuters Editor Warns That Covering Trump’s America Is Like Covering China, Russia

Reuters Editor-in-Chief Steve Adler wrote a memo to his reporters to guide them on how to cover Trump.

“The first 12 days of the Trump presidency (yes, that’s all it’s been!) have been memorable for all – and especially challenging for us in the news business. It’s not every day that a U.S. president calls journalists “among the most dishonest human beings on earth” or that his chief strategist dubs the media “the opposition party.” It’s hardly surprising that the air is thick with questions and theories about how to cover the new Administration.

“I am perpetually proud of our work in places such as Turkey, the Philippines, Egypt, Iraq, Yemen, Thailand, China, Zimbabwe, and Russia, nations in which we sometimes encounter some combination of censorship, legal prosecution, visa denials, and even physical threats to our journalists.”

It is quite alright to criticize the media (they deserve to be criticized a lot) but Trump seems to be taking it a bit too far. https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/832708293516632065

When you have the President asserting that the media "is the enemy of the American People!" it sounds overly authoritarian. I would not be surprised at all if Trump wrote a executive order making easier to sue the media. Or something even worse.

In the case of New York Times v Sullivan Scotus ruled in 1964 that a public figure can sue any media under two circumstances:

1). The media organization presented something it knew to be false and therefore acted with malice;

2) The media organization presented something in a reckless disregard of the facts.

If Trump could prove his case and if he had lawyers who believed in his cases against MSM only, Trump could be in court right now with dozens of suits filed.

However, instead of Trump pursuing in the courts his dozens of beefs against MSM only, he's working daily with Stephen Bannon to destroy the MSM.

Trump is not serious about reforming or improving MSM. Trump-Bannon and the Dancing Fanboyz are in their high kicking chorus line out to dismantle MSM completely and entirely.

No surprise given Trump has also targeted the courts and the Judiciary. Trump doesn't like or trust them either for reasons we well know also.

New York Times Co. v. Sullivan 1964

Held: A State cannot, under the First and Fourteenth Amendments, award damages to a public official for defamatory falsehood relating to his official conduct unless he proves "actual malice" -- that the statement was made with knowledge of its falsity or with reckless disregard of whether it was true or false.

The legal means have been in place for several decades but this is not what the Right Sector and their hero duo Trump-Bannon are about.

Actually, the most cost effective way to deal with the corrupt Progressive Machine run MSM is to highlight their deceit and lies, and let them commit economic suicide all on their own.

Left, right, or center, the American public deserves a media that is free from the alt-left bias that currently infects the 4th Estate.

History has documented enough times when the media was little more than a propaganda machine for an ideologically driven force. It never ends well.

You are correct that it's a bit of challenge to show malice, as such a standard is rather subjective.

But burying the alt-lefts MSM partners is a simple process, and in the end, a dwindling audience of irredeemably gullible viewers can't possibly generate enough revenue to support yellow journalism on the level that exists today.

Newspapers in the USA have always had some sort of slant to them and that is simply part of journalism. That does not make anybody the enemy of the American people.
