Trump admin asks for more time to reunite kids and parents separated at border

WASHINGTON — The Justice Department asked a federal judge Friday to extend the court mandated deadlines for reuniting nearly 3,000 migrant children who were separated from their parents while crossing the U.S.-Mexico border. Attorneys for the U.S. government claimed the court mandate for returning all children under age 5 to their parents by July 10 and all other children by July 26 does not account for the time required to verify and vet each parent. U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar said Thursday that his agency is using DNA testing to confirm parent-child relationships for nearly 3,000 children. The government also argued that it was too difficult to find parents who have already been deported back to their home countries, asking the judge to extend the timeline to find those parents or exclude them from the population who must be reunified.

Why didn't the government obtain DNA samples BEFORE separating families and dispersing the children all over the United States? But no, they're trying to do it ass-backwards.

The dysfunctional Trump administration of 2018 is the same dysfunctional Trump administration of 2017.

Dear god. This is like an airline that can't return lost bags weeks later. Nobody in their right mind would ever fly that airline again after that kind of experience!

And how much more valuable are children than travel bags!

They had no plan for reuniting the parents with their kids.

They never had a plan because they never planned on reunifying the families

"It's too difficult to find parents who have already been deported"....WTF was the plan? They took these kids and then kicked the parents out...why were the kids not reunited before booting the parents out so they could all be deported together then?

I mean, of course they need more time, it sounds like they didn't have a plan and never really intended to reunite these kids.
 
No one should be surprised, the motivation to separate them is far greater than doing anything to get them back together.

That was exactly their intent. That's how low they are.


Create a bargaining chip with the Dems by doing something reprehensible, which reprehensible thing then doubles as a deterrant: we'll take your kids away without even an outline of a plan of whether or how to return them, let alone when.

Think about it. Everything Trump is ill-planned, out the ass. Everything.
 
Failing to plan is planning to fail. This is what happens when you have multiple, barely coordinated federal agencies (and their various contractors?) implementing a hastily drafted 'new plan'. Trump, who is prone to having several positions (often simultaneously) on any issue, amplifies this already built (designed?) in chaos among related (yet not well coordinated) federal executive departments, agencies and programs (each often having several contractors assigned to figure out 'the details').
 
Trump loves chaos. Thrives on it. Demands it.

And he doesn't really care if his chaos decimates families. Nor does the GOP. They ran like hell to get out of D.C. on their holiday recess.
 
It was a totally honest mistake. Who doesn't fail to document the family relationships of a few thousand kids they take? It could happen to anyone.

I thought it was only 2,000? Are they including children that were separated previously as well?

Didn't take them a lot if time to separate them, so no more time, get it done.

They don't know exactly how many were abducted (HHS now says it's close to 3000), how many they still have in detention, or who the parents are.

In military speak ..... FUBAR.
