I just watched the interview Joe Kernen did with Trump on CNBC. I was shocked at how poorly Trump did. I think this was a disaster for Trump. I suspect Trump has been accustomed to friendly interviewers and he wasn't expecting Joe Kernen to actually ask simple, honest, legitimate questions. Quite frankly, I wasn't expected Joe Kernen to press Trump in any way since he's always making favorable comments about Trump. And all Kernen was really doing was saying things like, "Wait, hold on, that's not correct." Trump totally collapsed under Kernen's slight scrutiny and Trump sometimes responded in non-sensical ways. I wonder if Trump has lost his edge? I think, also, the reason why the interview is so damaging to Trump is that Kernen's personal behavior was direct but respectful, and Trump won't be able to accuse Kernen of being a "Trump-hater."

I think the following link is your topic:

Will watch later but for now - what "edge" did you perceive Donald having but has since lost?

1. I don't think Trump lied very well in the interview. He's usually an exceptionally good liar. In this case, his responses were sometimes incoherent. In the past, he was able to weave a good narrative and simply communicate it.

2. Kernen stood his ground and kept fact-checking him. I do not believe Trump was prepared for that. I suspect Trump has been able to avoid doing tough interviews, and is not accustomed to interviewers doing their job and following up with fact checks in real time.

That was my first question! People think he's slowly progressing to cognitive impairment but I think he's always been this stupid.

I think also, at some point, Trump actually has to govern, and he's just not good at it.

This isn't a campaign anymore where he can make vague promises about what he's going to do in the future.

Kernen contradicted Trump briefly, but then Trump was allowed to go rambling on and on engaging in whataboutism to wipe out Kernen's effect. The hosts could hardly get a word in edgewise. As Trump lied and lied, they could do little more than clear their throats and make feeble attempts to allow Trump to let them speak, but of course Trump wouldn't have it. I gave up about half way through the interview. Dysfunctional Donald was allowed to run roughshod over them as always.

Okay, that's legit.

Translation: whatever’s in my favor is real, whatever isn’t is rigged, fake, fraud, a hoax.

The GOP has never been good at governing. Trump is even worse at it.

They are skilled as the opposition party and have can spin a complex issue into a bumper sticker worthy slogan.

When did that happen? There was a brief moment of holding Trump's feet to the facts very early in the interview but then Trump was allowed to go on and on without interruption as Trump changed the subject many times until it was easy to forget Kernen's point (which is Trump's skill at manipulating a conversation in his favor.) Didn't see any more contradictions in the first half. I quit watching in disgust at that point.

Simple solutions to complex problems are the earmark of fascism.

I wanted those numbers a year earlier.
What a clown show.

You see this in right wing media as well, esp. talk radio. They are much better at tearing shit down, less so building/defending it.

The strategy sometimes is just to let him speak I suspect.

The more he talks the more dumb stuff oozes out and they've got material they can use for days.

The problem is that for his even dumber base, that dumb stuff sounds like divine revelation. He talks at about the 4th grade level, so finally they can understand what all anyone is saying for a change- none of that egghead mumbo jumbo bull$hit no one can understand, like referencing modern medicine and science and that other nonsense- like all those other crooked DC politicians.

So we may see a dumb 4th grade schoolyard bully. But they see:

  • 3:00 minutes:

Kernen: "Those were benchmark numbers, though, Mr. President, that happens. They do that. They do that twice a year and...""

  • 4:15 minutes:

Kernen: "And she said, you know, the commissioner doesn't really even get involved with the actual minutia of putting all these things together. And there's no way that that it could have been that she could have chosen to rig these numbers to make them look bad. And these are statistical changes based on this antiquated system. And it's just a big leap to go to rig."

  • 4:35 minutes:

Kernen: "Mr. President, it makes anyone you pick is going to be the critics are going to say, hey, he's picking a guy that's going to give him the or a gal that's giving him the numbers that he wants. So it undermines confidence in the system to some extent."

  • 34:50 minutes:

Kernen: "You did, you did. I'm moving on. I'm moving on to your claim that that revision helped Biden for hurt you for the 800,000. It was it was in August that there were still plenty of time for voters to see that those weren't for. The election in November. I believe it was in like November or something. There was a massive revision downward on. The 800,000 or 900,000 I think was in was in August, and then later it came out in March of 2025. It went to 5.98, not 818, but the original...""

Trump: I have poll numbers where I'm 71%, I have the best poll numbers. Look...
Kernen: Those are among Republicans. You know you've got...
[unintelligible]
Trump: No, no. No. Among Republicans I have a 94 and 95 percent.
Kernen: Well, you've got...
Trump: No. I'm talking about generally I have the let me put it this way. There was a gentleman on Harry Emden yesterday on CNN, and he went crazy over how well Trump was doing. Now, you know, you don't put that on because I think CBS is a shade actually, CNN's a shade better than NBC. I think NBC is probably the worst of them all. But if you check CNN tomorrow, watch Harry Emden see about the numbers. But that's okay. We have to defend ourselves, Jeff.
Kernen: I know. But there are other, they can say, there's... your haters cite polls that have you down in the 30s, Mr. President.
Trump: Yeah, but they're fake polls, Joe. I've had a lot of fake polls. Some have me in the 70s.
Kernen: With Republicans.
Trump: I have fake polls. Fox always gives me terrible polls. I've never had a good one from them. Then I win an election and my numbers shoot up. I won every swing state, didn’t I? I won the popular vote by millions, even though they tried like hell to cheat. I won all the counties, 2,750 to 502. It was a landslide. And now, just six months in, my poll numbers are even better than during the election. That’s because the Democratic Party is falling apart. You’ve got low-IQ people like Crockett. Any relation to the great Davy Crockett? He was a great man. But this Crockett is supposed to be one of their leaders. The Democrats are totally lost. They’ve got Trump Derangement Syndrome so bad, they can't walk, they can't talk, they don’t know where they're going. And Schumer...he’s finished. I watched him the other day. He’s completely lost his confidence.
Kernen: Forty percent of the country won't support you no matter what, so you're never going to get above 60 in any poll. And that’s because 40 percent has TDS. We know that, Mr. President. We used to do this every Tuesday. It was called Trump Tuesday. Maybe this can be the start of something again. But we appreciate your time today and hope to continue this discussion soon.

It's like reading the intake interview at a psychiatric hospital.

Actually it is capitulation. They know if they correct him he will crush them.

Every interview with Dear Leader is a total disaster.

Sadly, it doesn't matter. The Epstein Mess is costing him a bit, but it's not clear if even that will cost him a lot of support.

Unless he says "I'm sorry I was a racist all these years, and to make up for it I'm granting amnesty to undocumented migrants!" his cultists will not turn on him.
