It won't stop more from coming. We need to address the problem in the other direction, but no one wants to do that.

Walls are easily defeated, especially if they are as long as our southern border. (And what until someone points out to Trump that boats go in water, and they can sail right around the ends of his stupid wall, even if it could actually be made "impenetrable". But it can't.)
This will result in the US blowing a lot of taxpayer money on a big ugly trump ego project, and then playing whackamole for the next 20 years. It will solve nothing, but cause more serious problems.
