Some Mona Shores High School students say administrators stole the homecoming king throne from the rightful winner -- a transgender senior.
The controversy is playing out in the school's hallways, and on Facebook.
Assistant Superintendent Todd Geerlings said the issue is simple: The ballots gave two choices -- vote for a boy for king and a girl for queen.
And, in school records, he said, Oakleigh is still listed as a female.
The 17-year-old says the gender struggle has been life-long -- with sports, family and friends, even band camp. After years of counseling, Oakleigh plans a sex change operation at age 18.
"I knew I had a lot of votes because people were telling me in the hallway, 'Hey, I voted for you, I voted for you.'"
Oakleigh was overwhelmed by the support of classmates.
Then, last Monday, the principal called Oak into her office.
"They told me that they took me off because they had to invalidate all of my votes because I'm enrolled at Mona Shores as a female," Oakleigh said.
He, should keep his crown. End of thread.
If you read the story closely, it's not clear that he actually won anything, just that he was removed from the ballot.
Not sure how much that matters, but I thought it's worth mentioning.
Poor guy, ought to keep his crown.
Not a guy.
No. She shouldn't. End of thread
Gender and Sex are two different things Demon, This person in their minds feels they are male despite having female organs. A legitimate medical phenomena called Gender Identity Disorder, so this man wins the majority of votes but since he doesn't have a penis between his legs he can't be homecoming king? Clearly the student body didn't mind so I don't see why this must be an issue, fairly stupid to me.
Also Demon, what you said is fairly offensive. As I said this is a legitimate medical condition and you here are making fun of him.
He is more of a man than you'll ever be.
Personall attacks aside, can you get any more ignorant about someone you have never met?
Doesn't matter at all. We know in this world we have ransgender folks. Don't make a huge deal, and it's not a big deal.
Of course it matters. King is defined as male. Queen is defined as female Why should we ignore literally thousands of years of the definition of a word because someone feels differently about themselves?
I could say the same thing about you. Why are you attacking someone's identity when you have never met them?
Faor enough, but he should have been left alone by the adults. Doesn't change much.
In this case, I would agree that they shouldn't have gotten involved, but I wouldn't go so far as some of the people in this thread.
If this individuals is truly suffering from GID, he should have a diagnosis from a doctor and be registered with the school as a male. That would take care of these issues. If the individual does not have such a diagnosis, I could understand the school's hesitation on other issues, such as where the individual is allowed to change for gym/what sports the individual is allowed to play. This just seems like a relatively petty issue for the school to put its foot down on.
I'm not attacking their "identity" Please read more carefully.
There is no reason we should change the identity of a word based on one person's feelings about themselves.
You need to get a little less emotional and think a little more rational.
And your ignoring a medical condition known as Gender Identity Disorder, and demeaning a person for their medical condition. You wouldn't attack someone being in a wheelchair would you?
Where is the study performed on this girl? Let's see it.
Oh thats right. You have none just as NYC pointed out. Thanks for reinforcing what I said about you running with your emotions.

Does this kid have a *****? Yes. So I am sorry, but there is no homecoming king crown for you little missy. Of course, the ACLU thinks differently. I guess you shouldn't discriminate against people for thinking they are something they are not. So if I think I am a qualified heart surgeon a hospital should allow to me to conduct a triple bypass.
