Most of the "high security" schools are going to be right in the middle of cities with gang issues, I know many of those drill for everything, but then again they have metal detectors at the entrances as well.I've never heard of that either, but I didn't say anything because I don't know what happens in other schools in other states.

No doubt about it.Some of those schools are really bad, probably more like prisons than schools when you think about it.
Victimization crimes are up in the U.K. according to INTERPOL, Nationmaster statistics, and other international reporting.
This is the latest attack. There have been numerous knife mass attacks in China over the last year or so with double digit casualty counts, this one happened to involve more fatalities.

Have been for decades, including the gun friendly years. There was actually a slight uptick in firearm homicide in the U.K. after the bans. The U.S. has a problem with gang activity and prohibition(sometimes a combination of the two) but most of the homicide rates here are located in major cities around areas where illegal activity is prevalent and most of those involved by federal law aren't legally allowed to own a firearm in the first place(BTW, only murder and manslaughter should be in the criminal statistics. Intentional homicide can be a justifiable defensive homicide). Even with all of that our murder rates are less than a percentage of the total population. But their homicide numbers are very low in comparison to the US.
It's your country and I do the courtesy of saying that it's fine as to what your people want, I get offended when people in my country try to uphold it on specious grounds like crime control. It's not that simple, in general both of our countries are very safe, we have a crime related murder problem, the U.K. has a general violence problem "other".End of the day we are never going to agree on this, you feel safer living in a country where you can own a gun and I feel safer living in a country where we can't own one and don't have to. Gun control as a whole has worked in the UK but it happened over several decades. Gun control in the US would be a disaster because of reason previously stated in this thread.
Violence is intolerable at all levels, you can't have just general homicide without including factors involving other violence. Many who kill graduated from lesser violent crimes, and even then, assault, robbery, rape, burglary all can lead to a fatal end result. As well, and I've gotten on people before about this, homicide is the general killing of another which can be defensive or illicit, homicide is not a criminal action necessarily whereas murder and manslaughter are. An intentional homicide can be a defensive killing, however it can also be murder or manslaughter.Thats wasn't what was brought up, posters were talking about homicide rates and we have one of the lowest rates in the West.

I know it, there are thousands of ways to defeat security and the people who want to cause harm know them better than security personnel.Metal detectors, does great against a cabonfiber knife.
There was a shooting at my GF's university last night. A woman was shot in the leg and another injured. **** guns

Save your anger for the asshole who did it. Guns don't kill people. People do.
except that prisons lock people in. The schools lock people out.
It says a lot about our society when schools have to be surrounded by tall fences, barbed wire, and patrolled by armed guards.
So, other countries with stricter gun control are safer as many have suggested?
Take away one weapon and criminals will use another. Stop focusing on the tool.
Speedy recovery to all victims.
If a bomb is used...we blame the bomber. If a knife was used...we blame the knife wielded. But we blame guns when it is a shooting.

Those damn guns! What the hell are they thinking anyway?
I keep mine locked up so they don't sneak out at night and shoot the pain in the ass neighbor who whines about each and everyone within 800 yards of his property line
Some people do anyway. As if an inanimate object can kill without a person to operate it. Damn guns!
Actually, a bomb is the definition of an inanimate object that can kill without a person to operate it, once it has been built and set to go off that is.
But a person still has to set it up. It can't walk to it's location and set itself, right?
Right. That's why I said, "once it has been built and set to go off."
There are lots of things that kill on their own. No one has to build them or set them off or anything. Avalanches, tornadoes, hurricanes, and floods are among them.
They generally aren't considered weapons though.
