Trade wars are so easy to win that we just called a truce.
Dow surges 400 points on US-China trade ceasefire
The ceasefire between the United States and China has set off a huge celebration on Wall Street.
The Dow soared about 400 points at Monday's opening bell after China and the United States reached a temporary trade truce. It's a big relief because the damaging trade war between the world's two largest economies was set to deepen in January.
The Nasdaq and the S&P 500 climbed more than 1% apiece.
"A truce is definitely better than an escalation of hostilities," Kit Juckes, strategist at Societe Generale, wrote to clients on Monday.

So now we'll see if China upholds their part of the truce. Will they actually buy American products...especially agricultural products...to reduce our trade deficit? Will they actually engage in serious negotiations on various topics?
If not, guess what...the trade war continues...and intensifies.
Their choice.

What do you mean actually buy US agriculture? China bought 19.6 billion in 2017 and was our #2 export market.... that's why WE had to bailout our own farmers because WE were interfering with that.

On Trade, President Trump has agreed that on January 1, 2019, he will leave the tariffs on $200 billion worth of product at the 10% rate, and not raise it to 25% at this time. China will agree to purchase a not yet agreed upon, but very substantial, amount of agricultural, energy, industrial, and other product from the United States to reduce the trade imbalance between our two countries. China has agreed to start purchasing agricultural product from our farmers immediately.
President Trump and President Xi have agreed to immediately begin negotiations on structural changes with respect to forced technology transfer, intellectual property protection, non-tariff barriers, cyber intrusions and cyber theft, services and agriculture. Both parties agree that they will endeavor to have this transaction completed within the next 90 days. If at the end of this period of time, the parties are unable to reach an agreement, the 10% tariffs will be raised to 25%.

Since the US-China trade deficit has increased since Trump enacted tariffs, I suspect they will choose to continue

What tariffs? The tariffs in question were proposed for Jan 1 2019. The current agreement places the enactment date on hold, they therefore do not exist.

Seriously...do you think if that were an option, this cease fire would be taking place at all?

In the meantime another of my predictions comes true. Trump back peddled from all his anti-Canadian tough guy nonsense, now he's backing peddling from all his anti-China tough guy nonsense, and we go back to a world that looks remarkably like the one Obama left us. Proof: the only specifics are from the American side to simmer down on the tariffs. Everything else is TBD.
How bout dat.
It was written into the agreement that both parties signed.
Negotiations is a game of give and take. Trump isn't backpedaling. He's giving China a chance. If they choose not to engage in faithful negotiation, he raises tariffs.
And this is a far cry from the world Obama left us. China ignored Obama. They may be trying their best to play Trump, but they certainly aren't ignoring him.
The ones Trump has threatened to increase from 10 percent to 25
Hasn't happened, doesn't seem like it will happen, therefore they don't exist.
The Trump tariffs are a series of tariffs imposed during the presidency of Donald Trump as part of his economic policy. In January 2018, Trump imposed tariffs on solar panels and washing machines of 30 to 50 percent.[SUP][1][/SUP] Later the same year he imposed tariffs on steel (25%) and aluminum (10%) from most countries.[SUP][2][/SUP][SUP][3][/SUP] On June 1, 2018, this was extended on the European Union, Canada, and Mexico.[SUP][3][/SUP] The only countries which remain exempted from the steel and aluminum tariffs are Australia and Argentina.[SUP][4][/SUP] Separately, on July 6, the Trump administration set a tariff of 25% on 800 categories of goods imported from China worth $50 billion.[SUP][5][/SUP]

Oh, I have no doubt that they are playing him. He is easily played, which is why we see all the villains crawling out of the woodwork.
China is no dummy. They know exactly the power they wield, the investments they have, and the investments you guys have made in them. If Trump isn't willing to rock the boat with Saudi Arabia over $10billion and 600,000 jobs, what do you think he's going to do about China?? lol...
But at least you seem to be enjoying the show, so that's cool - just don't forget it's all theatre.
There is no ceasefire. The Canadian and Mexican trade agreements are entirely compliant with Trump's demands. One should read the agreements before opening one's mouth.
How bout dat?
Maybe in Trumpworld, Trump is threatening to increase tarrifs that do not exist, but in the real world they do

Thanks for the chuckles, your naiveté is a pleasure.
because believing facts is naive

You are free to live in a world of your own imagination, shared with no one else.

Missed you, OFG. I mean, you still don't know what you're talking about, but I did miss you...
4% of Canada's milk market is compliant with Trump's demands for total access, huh.... lol...
I like you, you're adorable.
