Uh huh...

I'm going with truly super dumb, like all the other people who film and post their misdeeds.
do they really make them this stupid? It;s an act to get offI admit with the deepest embarrassment that only after what regrettably happened, I learned of the antiquity of the monument,”
Maybe he thought the Raiders were moving there…do they really make them this stupid? It;s an act to get off

One of the most interesting things about the Colosseum is all of the ancient graffiti. Apparently the Italians value a modern brick wall more than the Romans valued the original structure. He did not know vandalism is illegal? Anywhere?
Lock him up.

It’s not preservation. Its replication. 2/3rds of the structure was destroyed by an earthquake in the 14th century and it spent the next 400 years being cannibalized for other construction projects. Preservation was never in the cards for this thing. What you see now is 19th, 20th, and 21st century restoration work. That brick wall that he vandalized is not original to the building but the act does mirror what the Ancient Romans did to the stone work.I think you miss the intent, preservation.

Now this statement is really sad.In his defense - much if not most of what you see today is modern restoration work. That brick wall is not original to the structure.
Nah. While there is certainly some restoration, but the bulk of what you see is original. It’s not preservation. As quaint as that painting is it’s not reflective of what the Colosseum looked like in the 17th century.Nah. While there is certainly some restoration, but the bulk of what you see is original.
Heres a painting from about 1630, showing that its pretty much the same.

Vandalism of a historic building, restored or not, is indefensible. As quaint as that painting is it’s not reflective of what the Colosseum looked like in the 17th century.
I mean... it was painted in the 17th century. So I guess you think the painter was clairvoyant? As quaint as that painting is it’s not reflective of what the Colosseum looked like in the 17th century.
Contrary to the fantasy presented in that painting - the Colosseum had been completely overtaken by nature by the 17th century and stayed that way until the 19th century when it was restored, renovated, and mutilated for tourism.I mean... it was painted in the 17th century. The outside of the colosseum doesnt have a whole lot added on since then - some shoring up of the walls, etc.
Most of what was removed was the external marble cladding and stonework, but that was gone probably well before the middle ages.
The interior has a bit more restoration, mostly to allow the millions of visitors to actually get around in it.
"I saw it for the first time on some show and decided to check it out. The guy on there said it was built back around 72. That's only like 50 years, isn't it?..""I didn't know"
Stop playing dumb, pal. You ain't good at it.
Next stop! Egypt! "I had no idea? Well I'll be.."Vandalism of a historic building, restored or not, is indefensible.
Sheesh. You've fallen off the edge.
Dumb and dumber all wrapped into one. How does anyone not know the antiquity of the colosseum?

I guess the painter was psychic and could tell the future then.Contrary to the fantasy presented in that painting - the Colosseum had been completely overtaken by nature by the 17th century and stayed that way until the 19th century when it was restored, renovated, and mutilated for tourism.
The guy would probably steal the Mona Lisa… “Well, she was smiling at me…”Dumb and dumber all wrapped into one. How does anyone not know the antiquity of the colosseum?
